Dear BHS Community,
Berkeley High Leadership is partnering with BHS PE teachers and the American
Heart Association to host a week-long set of events to raise awareness about
heart disease as well as provide chances to improve the health of everyone's
hearts. Beginning Jan 29, your student can participate in lunch time
activities led by students from the Health Occupational Services Academy,
donate blood at the Red Cross Blood Drive, play in a 4 on 4 basketball
tournament, or learn other lessons about how to be more alert about the
status of their heart health. The goal is to raise awareness about
protecting one's self from heart disease as well as to raise funds for the
American Heart Association.
The week will culminate in a "Red Out" at the Girl's Varsity Basketball home
game. We are encouraging everyone to wear red for the game(s) and show their
support for anyone that they know that has been affected by a heart
condition. If you feel so inclined to support the AHA, we will be selling
red t-shirts all week and at the game. There will also be Personal Hearts
available for a donation as a way to honor in name those that have been
affected. This week is a good time for all of us to reflect upon how we can
take personal action steps to improve our health and the health of our loved
ones.
Contact Mr. Villavicencio for more information on how to get involved, where
to purchase the AHA shirt, or any other comment. Thank you.
