A memorial service for Emily Kassier will be held on Saturday, June 11th, at
11:00 am at the Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School auditorium, 1781 Rose
Street, Berkeley. The service is open to all. Attendees are encouraged to
bring a photo to contribute to a photo collage.

Emily was a wonderful person who was filled with vitality and compassion.
She loved her friends and family and we will all remember her beautiful
smile. She graduated from Berkeley High School in 2010, and had just
completed her freshman year at Bennington College. Emily was very happy at
Bennington, where she was studying literature and education. She was
passionate about becoming a teacher and hoped to teach at BHS so she could
try to engage students and inspire them to pursue further education. She
excitedly began this when she assisted in teaching a World of Media class
for eight weeks during her winter field work term this year.

Emily died Thursday, June 2nd while at Bennington College in Vermont. She
suffered seizures in the company of a friend and became unconscious;
paramedics were unable to revive her.

In lieu of sending cut flowers, the family suggests that you plant a tree or
flowers in Emily's honor at your home. Donations in memory of Emily can be
directed to the Berkeley High School World of Media program, or to support a
scholarship fund for students with significant financial need at Bennington
College. Details regarding how to donate are below.
