In a rare and brazen attempt to avoid having so many meetings in his office, Principal Jim Slemp has challenged the students of Berkeley High School to fill his office with canned goods and food staples to help feed hungry people in this year of severe economic crisis. Donations of food, which will be used for the Berkeley High School meal for the community on Sat. Dec. 12, and extra food that will be donated to local shelters and food banks, will be collected in 2nd period classrooms. At its meeting on Dec. 3, the School Governance Council endorsed Principal Slemp's plan with an official declaration of support.

The challenge is on! Which class can collect the largest total donation? Can the students of Berkeley High make it impossible for their principal to enter his office due to the fact that the room is choked with donations? How can he issue detentions if he cannot even find his desk?

The gauntlet has been thrown down. Students of Berkeley High School: Are you big enough to take this on? Updates on this serious challenge will be provided.

DEADLINE: FRIDAY DEC. 11 - High Noon.
