At the School Board Meeting on 1/14/09, among other items, the Board discussed the following matters pertaining to BHS:

3.1-A Approval of the Epic Novel: New English Course at BHS and 3.2-A Approval of New Economics Course at BHS
The Board approved both of these items on the Consent Calendar.

5.1-A Approval of Yearly Facilities Plan Modifications and Approval of Architect for the BHS Portable Project
The Board approved changes they requested to the Facility Plan last approved on March 12, 2008. On December 10th the Board directed staff to study 10 potential changes to the existing plan and bring these recommendations back to the Board. Among other changes, the Board approved an architect to add five additional portables at Berkeley High School (in addition to the six new portables just opened) to be ready for the 2009-10 opening of school. It is hoped that these additional classrooms will bring
students back from the Washington portables, but that is dependent on the Berkeley High School master schedule.

3.1-I Berkeley High School Data Presentation
The Board received an extensive report on the District's high school student data, including the California Standards Tests (CST); California High School Exit Examination (CAHSEE); college entrance tests, grade point averages, attendance and discipline data. The report will be posted on the BUSD and the BHS websites as soon as modifications requested by the Board have been completed.
