STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN
September 24, 2008

*New to the bulletin today

ADMINISTRATION

*1.  Mr. Prolo will be having questions for students to test their skills. 2nd Question: For 10 points, identify this famous Mathematician. Living from 1849 to 1925, this German was well known for his lectures at Gottingen as his math.  Today he is remembered for a topological construct, a one-sided manifold, closed with no boundary that bears his name.

*2.  Order in the court- Come to the info session for mock trial Thursday after school in C335.  You be the lawyer like on TV!  Work with criminal defense attorneys and a district attorney on a case, and then go to trial against other NorCal teams.

3.  BART ticket orders for October will be on September 25th and 26th in room D224 at lunch time only.  Tickets are $16 each, cash only please.

4.  Final day to take ID pictures will be September 25th from 11:15 am - 4:00 pm. in the Community Theatre.

3.  Do you want to work and learn about the election process?  Do you want to make some extra money and serve your community?  Come by D148 for details.

4.  Yearbooks for sale in H102B for $65 until October 15th then prices will go up.  Discounts for students with free and reduced lunches. Yearbooks can also be purchased at myyear.com.

CLUBS

*1.  Mountain Bike Club meeting for all returning members at lunch in H202B on Wednesday.

*2.  Earphone English is still every Wednesday at lunch!  We have moved to room C124.

3.  Attention Clubs and Club Sponsors!  Please come to D148 to register your club!  We need to complete an updated club list for the 2008/2009 school year and we need your information.

4.  Calling all Berkeley High vocalists!  Shower singers or experienced vocalists please help us bring down the house for Berkeley High.  20-50 students are wanted who would like to perform 1-2 songs with the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir on October 4th at BHS  A brief and simple audition is required.  If interested, please contact Trelawny Rose at vocalfreedom at gmail.com.

5.  See you at the pole!  Youth for Christ Club is participating in the National Day of Prayer for the school -- Christians and non Christians are all invited.  Come September 24th from 7:30 -- 8:30 am at the BHS flagpole. Food will be provided.

SPORTS

1.  The wrestling team is having an informational meeting for anyone who is interested in this season on Thursday, September 25th in the Athletic Office at 11:45am.  If you have any questions about wrestling for Berkeley High this season get all the answers this Thursday.  Both boys and girls from 100 pounds to 300 pounds can participate.

2.  Anyone interested in weight training can participate in our strength and conditioning program.  The hours are Monday through Friday from 3:45-5:45 pm in the weight room.  You must have a completed packet on file to participate.  Packets can be picked up in the athletic office during lunch.  See Mr. O. if you have any questions.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES

*1.  Job in Glass-Blowing Studio -- helping with studio open house.  October 11th and 12th, 18and 19th, and 25th and 26th from 10am to 5pm. $14/hour.  For friendly, helpful student. 2.  Office help needed in small home business in northwest Berkeley, 2-3 hours a week after school.  For a capable, responsible and reliable student familiar with Mac, word, email programs. 2.  SCHOLARSHIPS

California Museum Dreamers' Challenge -- Submit an essay, video, audio or artwork to tell us how your dream will leave a lasting mark on the state, nation and the world.  Must be a senior and California resident.  Award - $5,000 cash and attend the California Hall of Fame Events.  Application available in D221 and at www.CaliforniaMuseum.org.  Received deadline:  October 10.

Horatio Alger Association -- Open to graduating seniors, planning to pursue a bachelor's degree, (but may start at a community college), with family income no more than $50,000, involved in co-curricular and community activities, with a minimum GPA of 2.0, who is a US citizen. Apply online at www.horatioalger.org/scholarships.  Scholarships from $2,000-20,000.  Deadline:  October 30.


EVENTS

1.  2011 represent your class!  We need artists for t-shirt designs and dancers for the rally.  Come to D148 with your ideas.

2.  Want to show off your moves and represent the class of 2010 while doing it?  October 24th will be the auditions for class rally dances, so get your groups together and get ready to dance it off and show the school what you've got!

3.  Artists: Want to show off your artistic skill?  If so, we are accepting Junior class rally T-shirt designs.  Submit your designs ASAP to D148.  The winner gets a free T-shirt.
