Superintendent's Budget Advisory Committee and Recommended Budget Cuts

In response to the Governor's announcement that his recommended budget
would strip $4.5 billion from California Public Schools next year, with at
least $3.2 million from Berkeley schools, the Superintendent asked his
staff to make a preliminary list of budget reductions. This list is being
reviewed by a new committee called the Superintendent's Budget Advisory
Committee. This committee, comprised of half employees and half community
members, is meeting at least 4 times this spring, and will review the
proposals, making their own recommendations to the Superintendent. The
Superintendent then will take the best ideas from each group forward when
he submits his recommendation to the Board in May. The Board will make
all final decisions and must pass a balanced budget by the end of June.

List of members of Superintendent's Budget Advisory Committee:
Chair, Deputy Superintendent Javetta Robinson-Cleveland
Beatriz Leyva-Cutler, Bernadette Cormier (Alt.) Cathy Campbell, Catherine
Lazio, Cathryn Bruno, Cynthia Allman, Dan Lindheim, Gwyneth Galbraith
(Alt.) Jamie Carlson, Jan Deblasi, Jason Lustig, Jenny Burroughs, Julie
Holcomb, Kris Amaral, Marshall Genn, Michael McBride, Paula Phillips,
Eric Weaver (Alt.), Tim Donnelly
