Administration
*1. Are you a Berkeley High Freshman who is passionate about worldly
issues? If so you should join the California YMCA Youth and Government
Model United Nations program. The model UN is a simulation of the
real life United Assembly. We are having an informational meeting at
the Berkeley YMCA @ the corner of Milvia and Allston in the hotel side
on Tuesday, March 6th at 7:30 pm. Please come if you are interested.
*2. BSEP Meeting is Tuesday, March 6, 2007 from 4:30-7:30 PM in
conference room B. Very important for all members to be in
attendance.
Agenda items as follows: Members introduction; Approval of agenda and
minutes; Public comment; discussion of criteria for acceptable
proposals; review of proposals; presentation of Measure A 2008 budget
allocations for BHS.
*3. We just received the results from the American Math Competition.
Forty-one BHS students participated and all did well. The top scorers
on the Grade test were Marin Balarin, Connie Chan, Anthony Granados,
David Levine, and Kyley McBard. The top scorers on the 10th grade
test were Scott Johnston, Rebecca Lau, Robert Luan, Matthew Olson, and
Kevin O'Neill. David Levine had the highest score on the 12th grade
test and Kevin O'Neill had the top score on the 10th grade test.
David, Kevin, Robert Luan, and Scott Johnston were all invited to take
the American Invitational Math Exam in March. Please see Mr.
Bloomsburgh in H306 if you would like to know your score.
Congratulations to all.
*4. Interested in taking AP Biology next year? There will be a
mandatory meeting for all students who want to take AP Bio in room
G212 on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Friday of this week, March 7,8, and
9th. If you want to take AP Bio show up at the start of lunch for one
of these twenty minute meetings.
5. Heads up students! Finding tutoring help is a sign of motivation,
maturity, resourcefulness and determination. These are qualities a
college or employer is seeking. Don't wait!
Algebra I and Geometry Tutoring Emphasis: Tues and Thurs

AP Biology tutoring is in room G305 from 4:30- 5:30 PM.
The March tutoring schedule is Wednesday, March 7 and Thursday, March
15.
No tutoring the week of March 19th and March28th.
6. City of Berkeley Youthworks will hand out applications for the 2007
Summer Session. Applications will be available March 5th-March 30th.
Completed applications must be returned by March 30th to be
considered. Berkeley residents ages 14-21 can apply at 1947 Center St
(basement level) or call 981-4970.
7. Sophomores - Do you want to engage in hands-on leadership training?
Intern at a professional work place? Meet diverse youth from the Bay
Area? Get the skills and experience to be a change-maker in your
community? Stand out in your college applications? Earn a $1,000
stipend? Coro's Exploring Leadership. A full-time summer and part
time fall program, will allow you to do all and more. Go to [

application. Application Deadline: March 15.
8. Looking for a job? Must be a tenth grader with a GPA of 2.5 or
better; See Belinda McDaniel for more details and a job application.
9. Paramount Great America has seasonal positions available. Apply

years old to apply.
Clubs
1. To all seniors interested in participating in Asian Graduation:
Come to the first informational meeting on Tuesday, March 5th during
lunch in C327.
*2. This Wednesday is Condom Club brought to you by PASSHEN: Peers
Advocating Safety and Sexual Health Education Now! Come learn the
facts about HIV, STIs and how to be safe this Wednesday, March 7th
during lunch in H114. You must attend the entire time to get a Condom
Club sticker on your ID - don't be late and remember to bring your
lunch and your ID! Snacks will be served.
3. The Community Partnerships Academy (CPA) Small School needs your
help. We are looking for donations of SAT prep materials. SAT Study
Guides are particularly welcomed. Please bring them to H202 anytime.

Sports
1. Varsity soccer players please wash and return your equipment as
soon as possible to Coach Juarez in C127. Pick up your t-shirts from
Coach Juarez in C127.
2. All soccer players: the soccer awards ceremony will take place in
the Food Court on Monday, March 5th at 6:30 PM. Please clear your
schedules so you can come pick up your trophies, medals, letters, and
photographs.
Senior / Junior Section
1. Seniors: The Young Conservatory at American Conservatory Theater is
offering a special scholarship for high school seniors in Alameda
County to attend classes offered in the Spring session (March 19 - May
26, after school and weekend schedule) and their 4-week Summer Session
(daytime classes June 18 - July 13). The spring class schedule and
scholarship application is available in D221.
2. Scholarship Opportunities for Seniors - Sigma Pi Alpha Sorority
Scholarship-open to seniors from a Chicana/Latina background with an
unweighted GPA of at least 2.5 who will be attending a two or four
year college or vocational school in the fall. US citizenship or
permanent
residency is NOT a requirement. Deadline: April 1. Scholarship:
$250.
3. East Bay Consortium Scholarship - Open to seniors planning to
attend a two or four year accredited college with a minimum GPA of
2.8 if planning to attend a four year college or 2.0 if attending a
community college who have demonstrated active participation in extra
curricular activities and have financial need. Deadline: April 6.
At least 36 scholarships of $2,500 for students attending a four year
college and ten scholarships of $1,000 for students attending
community college.
4. Latino and Native American Association (LANA) - open to high school
seniors of Latino or Native American descent with a minimum 2.0 GPA.
Deadline: April 2. $500 scholarship.
5. Anita Baskerville Harris Scholarship Award - open to graduating
African-American females with a minimum GPA of 3.0 with financial
need. Essay required. Deadline: April 2. Scholarships range from
$500 to $2,000.
6. Scholarships - Wa Sung Community Service Club Merit Scholarship
applicant must be a graduating senior of Asian descent residing in
Alameda or Contra Costa County who will be attending college in fall
2007. Seven to ten scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded.
7. SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES - Americans for Informed Democracy offers a
two-week summer enrichment program for rising juniors and seniors in
high school interested in international relations. Called Global
Scholar, the program is held at Washington and Lee University in
Lexington, Virginia from July 1-14, 2007. Global Scholar is a college
prep and leadership development program that builds global competence.
Students hear from global leaders and delve into a World Affairs
curriculum modeled on a college level course. They will also have the
chance to videoconference with their peers halfway around the world,
visit leading global institutions, journey to foreign countries
through film and devise global campaigns to respond to today's most
pressing global challenges. Cost $1,600. Several full and half

8. SENIORS- City College of San Francisco is now accepting
applications for their Culinary Arts ND Hospitality Management
Program. This is an excellent two year program in which students earn
an Associate of Science Degree and an Award of Achievement in Culinary
Arts, Food Service Management or Hotel Management. Graduates of this
program have transferred to many different four year colleges to earn
a bachelors degree. Additional information is available in the

415-239-3152. Application deadline is April 9th.
*9. College visits to Berkeley High- Seniors: Sign up in D221 to
attend college presentations. You must also pick up an authorization
form for your teacher to sign so that you may miss his or her class.

Events/ Performance
1. It's ITPs time! Come see three one act plays independently produced
by Berkeley High students, featuring "Asphyxiation," "Girl Talk,"
and "Perry in His Underwear." Again, 8 PM at the Hillside Club in
Berkeley, March 2, 3 ,9 and 10. Only $5 for students ($10 for
others).
2. Have you ever pictured yourself on the big screen? Are you waiting
for your big break? Then come to room C400 on March 8th, between 3:30
and 6:00 for a role in one of four student films. Signups are posted
on the door of Room C400. Walk-ins welcome, free snacks.
3. Actors: Calling all actors. Sign up for three Drama opportunities,
1st floor A building. Don't be left out of the Drama action for next
year.
4. Class of 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010, the MORP or backwards PROM is
almost here! Presale tickets available form $7.00 in the box office
during lunch and after school.
Sales
*1. Jr. Prom tickets will be available on the community theatre steps
during lunch and in the box office after school. ($55) if you are
interested in being Jr Prom King please stop by D148.
2. Prices are $80.00 for yearbooks. Please purchase your yearbooks in
H102 each day. Financial Assistance is also available to those who
qualify see Mr. Knight during 7th in H102 to apply.
3. Class of 2007- Senior spellout pictures are still available. $5
each. Come to D148 and pick up one.
