Administration

*1. The Berkeley High Girls Basketball team DEFEATED Washington of Fremont
in the Donahue Gym last night to go to the Championships of the NCS Division I
tournament  against Monte Vista on Saturday night at 8:00 pm in the
Donahue Gym.  Tickets are $9 and $6.  One ticket is good for both games.
The Berkeley High Boys lost in the semi-final round to Monte Vista last
night.  Congratulations to Head Coach Brian Guinn and all the Varsity
Basketball team for a strong 2007 season.

*2. Come support the BHS Lady Jackets- BHS Pep Squad needed.  If interested,
please see Mrs. Washington in H104 by today.  T shirts provided that you
can keep.  Game: Saturday, March 3, 2007 at 8pm in the Donahue Gym.

*3. BSEP Meeting is Tuesday, March 3, 2007 from  4:30-7:30 PM in
conference room B.  Very important for all members to be in attendance.
Agenda items as follows: Members introduction; Approval of agenda and
minutes; Public comment; discussion of criteria for acceptable proposals;
review of proposals; presentation of Measure A 2008 budget allocations for
BHS.

*4. City of Berkeley Youthworks will hand out applications for the 2007
Summer Session.  Applications will be available March 5th- March 30th.
Completed applications must be returned by March 30th to be considered.
Berkeley residents ages 14-21 can apply at 1947 Center St (basement level)
or call 981-4970.

5. Heads up students!  Finding tutoring help is a sign of motivation,
maturity, resourcefulness and determination.  These are qualities a
college or employer is seeking.  Don't wait!

       AP Biology tutoring is in room G305 from 4:30- 5:30 PM.
The March tutoring schedule is Wednesday, March 7 and Thursday, March 15.
No tutoring the week of March 19th and March28th.

6. BHS students looking for Community Service, Math Tutoring hours and a
gratifying experience, come to MathWorks at Willard Middle School.  Note
new days are Monday and Tuesdays from 3-4 pm.  For more information email

stipend?  Coro's  Exploring Leadership. A full-time summer and part

Clubs

1. Hey all you Asian Pacific Islander Committee members!  There will be an
APIC meeting today at lunch in room C327 so make sure to go!  We will be
going over the APIC bake sale that will take place on Friday.  Also for
all you out there, please go to the APIC bake sale on Friday at lunch!

*2. To all seniors interested in participating in Asian Graduation: Come to
the first informational meeting on Tuesday, March 5th during lunch in C327.

3. Come to French Club every Friday at lunch in room C102! Everyone is
welcome to come and have a great time at French Club!  Once again, French
club is held every Friday at lunch in room C102!

*4. How are Jew?  Ready for Purim?  Come to the next JSU meeting on Monday
at lunch in A205 to discuss Haman and Mordachai.  Bring your groggers!

5. We are back: Mandatory Baking Club meeting Monday, March 5.  We are
meeting after school in Mr. Collier's room.  If you can't make it you must
contact Hannah or Anna to let them know!

6. The Community Partnerships Academy (CPA) Small School needs your
help.  We are looking for donations of SAT prep materials.  SAT Study
Guides are particularly welcomed.  Please bring them to H202 anytime.

Sports

1.  Varsity soccer players please wash and return your equipment as soon
as possible to Coach Juarez in C127.  Pick up your t-shirts from Coach
Juarez in C127.

2. All soccer players: the soccer awards ceremony will take place in the
Food Court on Monday, March 5th at 6:30 PM.  Please clear your schedules
so you can come pick up your trophies, medals, letters, and photographs.


Senior / Junior Section

1. Seniors: The Young Conservatory at American Conservatory Theater is
offering a special scholarship for high school seniors in Alameda
County to attend classes offered in the Spring session (March 19 - May
26, after school and weekend schedule) and their 4-week Summer Session
(daytime classes June 18 - July 13).  The spring class schedule and
scholarship application is available in D221.

2. Scholarship Opportunities for Seniors- Sigma Pi Alpha Sorority
Scholarship-open to seniors from a Chicana/Latina background with an
unweighted GPA of at least 2.5 who will be attending a two or four year
college or vocational school in the fall.  US citizenship or permanent
residency is NOT a requirement.   Deadline: April 1.  Scholarship: $250.

3. East Bay Consortium Scholarship - Open to seniors planning to 
attend a two or four year accredited college with a minimum GPA of 
2.8 if planning to attend a four year college or 2.0 if attending a 
community college who have demonstrated active participation in extra 
curricular activities and have financial need.  Deadline:  April 6. 
At least 36 scholarships of $2,500 for students attending a four year 
college and ten scholarships of $1,000 for students attending 
community college.

4. Anita Baskerville Harris Scholarship Award - open to graduating 
African-American females with a minimum GPA of 3.0 with financial 
need.  Essay required.  Deadline:  April 2.  Scholarships range from 
$500 to $2,000.

5. Latino and Native American Association (LANA) - open to high 
school seniors of Latino or Native American descent with a minimum 
2.0 GPA.  Deadline:  April 2.  $500 scholarship.

6. Scholarships- Wa Sung Community Service Club Merit Scholarship
applicant must be a graduating senior of Asian descent residing in Alameda
or Contra Costa County who will be attending college in fall 2007. Seven
to ten scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded.

7. SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES - Americans for Informed Democracy offers a
two-week summer enrichment program for rising juniors and seniors in
high school interested in international relations.  Called Global
Scholar, the program is held at Washington and Lee University in
Lexington, Virginia from July 1-14, 2007.  Global Scholar is a college
prep and leadership development program that builds global competence.
Students hear from global leaders and delve into a World Affairs
curriculum modeled on a college level course.  They will also have the
chance to videoconference with their peers halfway around the world,
visit leading global institutions, journey to foreign countries
through film and devise global campaigns to respond to today's most
pressing global challenges.  Cost $1,600.  Several full and half
scholarships are available.  For more information, visit [

8. SENIORS- City College of San Francisco is now accepting
applications for their Culinary Arts ND Hospitality Management
Program.  This is an excellent two year program in which students earn
an Associate of Science Degree and an Award of Achievement in Culinary
Arts, Food Service Management or Hotel Management.  Graduates of this
program have transferred to many different four year colleges to earn
a bachelors degree.  Additional information is available in the
College Career Center and at www.ccsf.edu/cahs or by calling
415-239-3152.  Application deadline is April 9th.

college presentations. You must also pick up an authorization form for
your teacher to sign so that you may miss his or her class.

Events/ Performance

1. It's ITPs time! Come see three one act plays independently produced by
Berkeley High students,  featuring "Asphyxiation,"  "Girl Talk," and "Perry in
His Underwear."  Again, 8 PM at the Hillside Club in Berkeley, March
2, 3 ,9 and 10.  Only $5 for students ($10 for others).

2. Mystery lovers: Come hear Bay Area Mystery Writer Cara Black.  She's
speaking in Mr. Bye's Short Story class.  Now you can hear her read from
her latest thriller and find out the secret of her success, Monday, March
5 at 7:30 PM at Black Oak Books.

*3. Have you ever pictured yourself on the big screen?  Are you waiting for
your big break?  Then come to room C400 on March 8th, between 3:30 and
6:00 for a role in one of four student films.  Signups are posted on 
the door of
Room C400.  Walk-ins welcome, free snacks.

4.  JUNIOR PROM-Tickets will be available until March 2nd during
lunch and after school.  Early bird price $45.00.

5. Actors: Calling all actors. Sign up for three Drama opportunities, 1st
floor A building.  Don't be left out of the Drama  action for next year.

6. Class of 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010, the MORP or backwards PROM is
almost here!  Presale tickets available form $7.00 in the box office
during lunch and after school.


Sales

1. Prices are $80.00 for yearbooks. Please purchase your yearbooks in H102
each day. Financial Assistance is also available to those who qualify see
Mr. Knight during 7th in H102 to apply.

2. Class of 2007- Senior spellout pictures are still available.  $5 each.
Come to D148 and pick up one.
