[BHS etree] JAZZ: Ensemble and Combos Win Again

Congratulations are in order once again to the Berkeley High School
Jazz Ensemble and Combos. The Ensemble won 1st place and the Combos
won 1st and 4th place in their divisions at the Reno Jazz Festival
last weekend. Billy Buss, trumpeter, was named Outstanding Performer.

And congratulations to Mariel Austin (trombone), Evan Hughes (drums),
and Billy Buss (trumpet) who were selected at the Monterey National
High School Jazz Competion for the Next Generation Jazz Orchestra.
They will tour this summer to New York City and Europe and will
perform at the Monterey Jazz Festival in September.

Up-coming performances:

* Combos at Anna's Jazz Island, 2120 Allston Way, next Wednesday, May
10, 8-11 pm. All ages are welcome, $5 cover.

* Combos and Ensemble at Jazz on Fourth, Fourth Street between Hearst
and Virginia in Berkeley, on Sunday, May 21. Free.  Live performances
all afternoon with an array of well-known Bay Area musicians and
bands.
