STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN

Administration

1.	Attention all candidates for the 2006-2007 student government
elections:   The deadline to complete your turned in application and the
deadline to change your intended position is this Friday, May 5th, 2006.

2.	AP TEST- today in the Jacket Gym
  8:00 am      US History
12:00 pm     Studio Art  (portfolios due)

3.	STUDENTS- There are no water fights allowed on BHS campus.  Water
balloons, water guns, water bottles, or any other object filled with 
water
will get you automatically suspended for three days.  Seniors- remember 
if
caught in water play, you will not be able to participate in graduation
ceremonies.

4.	ESSAY CONTEST!  Children’s Aid and relief Enterprise invites all
Berkeley High students to participate in an essay contest.  This paper
should be double-spaced, 12 font and no more than 2-3 pages in length.
Essays must be submitted by May 5th.  You can <careberkeley at yahoo.com> 
or mail it to CARE
Berkeley 2521 Regent St Apt #14, Berkeley, CA 94704.   The grand prize
winner will receive $50 gift certificate to Amoeba Music.  For more
information on the topic see Belinda McDaniel in the front office.

Clubs
1.	The absolutely, definite, without a doubt last day to turn in an
application to become a student lawyer for the Berkeley High Student 
Court
is Friday, May 5th.  You can pick one up and return it outside of C311.


Sports
1.	VOLLEYBALL OPEN GYM  will be held on Thursdaysm 4:30-5:30 pm, in the
Donahue Gym  on 5/11, 5/18, 5/25, 6/1.  Open gym is available to all 
Berkeley High Girls.

Senior / Junior Section

1.	College Visits:
UC Berkeley-  May 10th
1:20 pm    UC Berkeley summer session-find out about interesting
classes to improve your skills and GPA over the summer.  Sign up in D221
to come to the presentation.

2.	Juniors- There are now many openings for appointments with either Ms.
Abrams or Mr. Stringfellow.  If you have not already had an appointment 
or
missed a previous one, sign up now in D221 before they are gone.

3.	Scholarships- Greater San Francisco Advertising Club Scholarship
Program-Open to seniors who plan to study advertising communications,
design, journalism, marketing or media. Applications available in D221.
Two $500 scholarships will be awarded.  Deadline: May 5th.

4.	Seniors!  Have you recently turned 18?  Will you be 18 by June 6, 
2006?
  If so, stop by D148 and pick up a  voter Registration card in order to
vote in the June 6th primary Election.

5.	Nancy Elizabeth Branch 2006 African American Scholarship- Open to
African-American seniors planning to attend a four year college.
Applications available in D221.  Scholarship: $1,000.  Deadline:  May 
31st.

6.	Seniors- Full time summer jobs available with the Social Security
Administration, 1221 Nevin Avenue, Richmond, across from the Richmond 
BART
station.  Pay $11.34 per hour.  Low income students are given priority 
for
employment.  Applications available in D221.

7.	Seniors!  Our time here at Berkeley High School has almost come to an
end.  Graduation is around the corner!  Do you want to be a part of the
show?  Are you a speaker, artist, or dancer?  Come to the try out on 
May 9
and 10th starting 6th period in the Community Theater.  Sign up with 
Ruby
at the front desk.  Have something creative prepared.  We want to see 
all
your diverse talents. Be there!

8.	Seniors! Seniors! Need a little extra to make ends meet?  The 
Register of
Voters is in need of poll workers in your local area to assist with
polling place set-up and check in.  The pay is a whopping $90.  See Mrs.
McKnight for more information.

9.	JOB OPENINGS- MTC Summer High School Internship program open to
students at least 16 years old who have completed the 10th grade and 
has a
GPA of 2.9 or above.  25 internships available throughout the San
Francisco Bay Area. Salary: $8.25 per hour. Students may work full or
part-time for up to 8 weeks between June and August 2005.  Applications

Events/ Performance
1.	If you want to record your music- rap, beats, or string quartets- you
can come to the CAS sound studio for complete professional support from
our professional student engineers.  Cut your own CD!  If you are
interested, see Mr. Ayers in room C324 to sign up.

2.	Opera Club!  If you are interested in getting incredibly cheap ($30)
tickets to the SF Opera and seeing world class performances, check this.
Attend Madam Butterfly by Puccini on May 30 (Tuesday).  Space is limited
so purchase your ticket now!  See Mr. Ayers in C324.

SALES

1.	Yearbooks are on sale in H102 everyday at lunch and after school.  
They
are $70 dollars.  Make checks payable to BHS yearbooks.

2.	COUPON BOOKS-Stop by Milvia Street exits and get your copy of “Guide 
to
the Good Life in Berkeley”.  For just $10, you get hundreds of coupons
that can save you hundreds of dollars – at places like Extreme Pizza,
Crepes A Go Go , and Grub and Go, LaVal’s, Games of Berkeley and 
Iceland.
