Read on for February grant highlights and to find out more about the
essential programs that your donations to BHSDG have funded this month, as
well as the many ways you can get involved and invest in strengthening our
school.

WHAT HAVE YOUR DONATIONS FUNDED RECENTLY?

Your contributions to BHSDG fund after-school tutoring, classroom supplies,
software, teacher professional development, technology, college-application
support, and many other programs. Without your donations, the BHS
experience would simply not be the same. Highlights of grants funded at our
February meeting include:

Student-led Fashion Show/Art Gallery ($3,500). This grant provides up to
$3,500 to support a student-led visual art and fashion show that will
showcase student art and creativity. Funds will go toward the cost of
renting a space, supplies, sound equipment, and publicity materials. This
new activity will give students a much-needed opportunity to share their
art in a public setting and will tap the hidden talent at Berkeley High.

Literary Magazine Publication ($208). BHSDG funds will pay the balance of
the expense to print 100 copies of a literary magazine featuring original
student writing. Participating students are enrolled in the Academic Choice
Literary Magazine elective course and will solicit submissions of writing,
photography, and other artwork, and will manage editing and production of
the magazine. All humanities teachers and the library will receive a copy
of the final product in addition to student copies.

Title IX Coordinator Discretionary Fund ($1,000). This board initiated
grant will provide discretionary funds to support the work of the new BHS
Title IX coordinator. The Title IX coordinator is responsible for
overseeing all complaints of sex discrimination, sexual harassment, or
sexual assault and identifying and addressing patterns or systemic problems
that arise during the review of such complaints. This grant will be used to
recognize students who have been leaders in raising awareness and
advocating on this issue.
