Did you love International Muffin Day?
On March 15th, International Muffin Day Club will be holding another
International Muffin Day! We know it will be a lot of work, and we will
need lots of people to help us bake muffins. If you want to sign up for
International Muffin Day Club, or want to bake muffins for International

are on Wednesdays in H207 at lunch. At meetings, there will be free muffins!

Teen Reproductive Justice Program
This Saturday, the Teen Reproductive Justice Program is having its first
meeting. It's time to look to the future and join teen leaders as critical
voices in the reproductive justice movement. Join the program to be part of
a community based on shared values of collaboration, trust, and support,
each gaining skills and tools to become stronger leaders and advocate for
our rights. Online meetings to share knowledge, build skills, and plan
activities, will be held every week on Saturdays from 10-11 am. We will be
joined by leaders in the reproductive justice, health, and rights field as
well as partnering with high school and other organizations to harness our
individual, organizational and collective power. This program will
culminate with a march and rally advocating for reproductive justice and
showing our knowledge, strength, and leadership.

TOWER CHALLENGE with STEMinist CLUB
Finalize Engineering Month with the STEMinist Club in a building
competition! The Tower Challenge is an activity for beginners interested in
architectural/civil engineering. The goal is to practice prototyping
structures using spaghetti and marshmallows. Groups of 2-3 will compete for
a full lunch covered at Toss Noodle Bar, Cheeseboard Pizza, Imm Thai Street
Food, or Vik's Chaat Corner. The team with the highest tower will win. Join
us in G213 this Wednesday during lunch.

Elected Candidate Handbook preview/ Convention Delegate Request
Election season is here, Berkeley High. Today is your first chance to
preview the roster of elected candidates for the 2022-23 school year. These
are the students who will represent you at school board meetings, funding
committees, and in on-campus events planning. To be an informed voter, read
through the Elected Candidate Handbook and connect with the elected
candidates about their campaigns over social media.

Prom Ticket sales update & Health Check Update
These guidelines are subject to change.
You have your prom tickets. You have your friend groups ready to go. You
have your outfit. You have your matching well-fitting mask. Do you have
your vaccination card ready?
To enter the SF Galleria all guests will need to show proof that you are
‘vaccinated with a complete initial series’ or a negative test before
entering. ‘Vaccinated with a complete initial series’ means two weeks
removed from the final dose of a CDC‐approved vaccine. You can show the CDC
card, a photo of the card, or a digital copy of the card as long as the
name, vaccination date, and type of vaccine are clearly visible.
For Guests not up to date with their covid vaccination, including the
unvaccinated and those who are less than two weeks from having received
their 2nd dose, they must provide proof of a negative result from a
COVID‐19 test administered within 24 hours. At the door, you could show a
printed document or digital record (text, email, app screen, etc.) of the
negative test results, which should include the individual’s name, date of
birth, and date of when the test was taken. Physical tests will not be
accepted as proof of a negative test result.

reason.
A Starry Night plans to be a memorable evening with the city skyline as a
beautiful backdrop. Guests can expect sweet or savory crepes, unlimited
beverages, and free photobooth pictures. Guests will also have access to
professional photography at an extra cost.
Prom Policy: In order to attend prom, students should not be involved in
conduct that violates education code and school rules from February 1-March
18. If there is a violation of the education code and school rules you will
be excluded from prom. In December, the attendance office sent students who
have 30+ unexcused absences a letter home notifying them that they cannot
attend Senior Prom.
-You can earn yourself off the prom exclusion list by showing improvement
in your attendance. You will need to complete a 2-week attendance that
you can pick up from the attendance office. You must have no unexcused
period absences or CUTs during your 2 week attendance card and it must be
completed before March 11th, the end of quarter 3. You can attend tutoring
in the College and Career Center or through teacher tutorials and complete
the attached Unexcused Absence Clearance Form to clear up to 12 unverified
absences from the previous month. If you can get your unexcused absences
count under 30, you will be removed from the Prom Exclusion list. Please

Covid Vaccination Status: Berkeley High Prom is taking place in the city of
San Francisco. We need to have all attendees comply with the BUSD Board
Policy* around vaccination status which states that proof of vaccination
shall be required for attendance for any person age 12 or over at any
indoor extracurricular BUSD event. In accordance with BUSD board policy,
masks are to be worn at all times except when actively eating and when
actively taking formal pictures. *Subject to change

Feb. 28-Mar.18, the price increases to $75.
On Feb. 28, in-person sales are Monday, Wednesday, & Friday in the BHS
Cafeteria at lunch & after school.
Cash & debit/credit cards are accepted. Debit/credit cards fees apply. No
checks.
Please understand that there will not be refunds issued for prom if you are
unable to attend, or get removed from the event. By purchasing the ticket
you are agreeing to abide by the rules of Berkeley High, Berkeley Unified
School District, The Galleria venue and the city of San Francisco.
Discounted Tickets: To purchase discounted tickets at $30, BHS students
must purchase tickets in person. The price will be $30 for the entire
duration of sales.In-person ticket sales begin February 28. Students must
show a photo of your current school year eligibility letter from B.U.S.D.
to verify eligibility. Please see page 4.
Guest Passes & Dance Conduct: Non-BHS Guest Pass Forms must be submitted
at time of purchase. Only guests 20 years of age or younger will be
admitted to Prom. The last day Guest Pass Forms are accepted will be March

Security: All guests will pass through a security screening. Please do not
bring large overnight bags, gum, food or beverage, drugs, weapons, among
other illegal items. Contact Mr. V if you have a dietary need,
prescription, or other need that may fall on the prohibited item list.
Sobriety: For your safety, any guest suspected of being under the influence
or in possession of an illegal or controlled substance, either when
arriving or during the Prom, will have their parents/guardians notified and
will be required to leave the premises. Parents/Guardians will be
responsible for picking the student up as all school policies and
subsequent consequences will be enforced. Let’s have a joyous and safe
celebration!

BHS FILM FEST
Hello! Just another update on the upcoming BHS Film festival. Submissions
are coming up, and fast. Please please get your submissions in by March 1st
if you want them to be reviewed by the super awesome BHS Film fest club.
The physical festival will be coming up on May 21. The festival is a great
way to share your work, either new or old, and get recognition for the
amazing films you are creating! Submitting also counts as extra credit in
almost all film classes, so if you do submit make sure you tell your
teacher! Thank you, and get filming!

Not only is prom quickly approaching, but graduation is beginning to appear
on the horizon. In addition to finishing your last BHS semester strong,
make sure to pick up a cap & gown today. You can select a red or gold

use the cap & gown loaner please do so before March 1. More details about
graduation ceremonies and celebrations will be shared as we approach spring
break.

Complete the Free & Reduced Meals Form for Discounts
Families should complete an EZ Meal App <http://secure.ezmealapp.com/> in
order to receive benefits under the free & reduced lunch program. If
determined to qualify, students can receive discounts to school events
(prom, graduation, etc.) among other testing discounts if they have
completed forms on file with B.U.S.D. Once determined to qualify for free &
reduced meals, Nutrition Services will send a paper copy of the eligibility
letter to the home mailing address. To receive the discount, this paper
copy or digital photo of the eligibility letter will be shown to school
officials overseeing the school event. Families can also request an
eligibility letter if they completed the Alternative Income Form at
registration.
If a household needs another letter they should contact Sara Leon either
through saraleon at berkeley.net or nutritionservices at berkeley.net. This
information is protected by right to privacy so we are not able to provide
this information to minors or someone other than the head of household.
Requests can be made by phone 510.644.6200 or through email, or by US mail
2020 Bonar Street, Suite 1, Berkeley CA, 94702. Nutrition Services require
up to three days to process their request as these do not tend to come in
one at a time.

About The Eli Kane Spirit Award

The Eli Kane Spirit Award is an annual award presented to a Berkeley
High School Junior or Senior who best represents the spirit, qualities and
character of Berkeley High School alumni, Eli Kane.

One deserving student will be selected and win a $3,500 cash award.

Nominations are now open and all teachers, coaches, counselors,
administrators and fellow students from Berkeley High School, as well as
extra-curricular instructors, coaches, tutors, employers, counselors and
friends outside of BHS can nominate a current Junior or Senior.

The nomination process is simple and should only take about 15 minutes
of your time. Deadline for nominations is Friday, March 4. 2022. You can

Notification of Non-Discrimination Policy
The Berkeley Unified School District is committed to providing a
hostile-free working and learning environment. The District prohibits
discrimination, harassment, bullying, intimidation, and retaliation, based
on actual or perceived race, ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation, gender,
gender identity/expression, pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding/lactation
status (related medical conditions), religion, color, national origin
(including language restrictions and possession of a driver’s license
(issued under Vehicle Code), ancestry, immigration status, physical or

characteristics, or any other basis protected by federal, state or local
law, ordinance, or regulation in any program or activity it conducts or to
which it provides significant assistance.
Discrimination is different treatment based on a protected characteristic
in the context of an educational program, work or activity without a
legitimate, nondiscriminatory reason that interferes with or limits the
individual’s ability to participate in or benefit from the services,
activities, or privileges provided by the District or includes an adverse
employment action.
Hostile environment harassment occurs when a target is subjected to
unwelcome conduct based on a protected characteristic, which is both
subjectively offensive to the target and would be offensive to a reasonable
person of similar circumstances/characteristics and is sufficiently so
severe, and so pervasive to interfere with or limit an individual’s ability
to effectively work or to participate in or benefit from the services,
activities, or opportunities offered by the District. Harassment may take
many forms, including but not limited to, verbal remarks and name-calling,
graphic and written statements, or any conduct that may be threatening or
humiliating. Harassment based on any of the above protected categories is a
form of unlawful discrimination and will not be tolerated by the District
and can result in disciplinary action against the offending student or
employee.
Upon witnessing an act of discrimination, harassment, bullying,
intimidation, and retaliation, based on actual or perceived protected
characteristics, school personnel are required to take immediate steps to
intervene when it is safe to do so. Once a school/office has expressed
notice or reason to know of such conduct, whether carried out by employees,
students, or third parties, it should take immediate and appropriate steps
to investigate, determine what occurred, take prompt and effective steps
reasonably calculated to end the conduct, eliminate a hostile environment,
if one has been created and prevent the conduct from occurring again. These
steps should be taken regardless of whether an individual makes a complaint
or asks the school/office to take action. Complaints are protected from
retaliation. The District prohibits retaliation against any person who
files a complaint or an appeal, reports instances of noncompliance,
discrimination, harassment, bullying, and intimidation, or who participates
in the complaint-filing or investigation process. This nondiscriminatory
policy applies to all acts related to school activity or school attendance
within any school/office under the jurisdiction of the Berkeley Unified
School District.
