https://forms.gle/w2Qpktoxfz1fgrZD7 About: Sound was first recorded and
reproduced by Thomas Edison. This sound is of historical interest but in
obsolete formats. Recently, techniques have been used to create and analyze
high resolution digital images, and to restore the audio content of these
materials. This lecture will discuss characteristics of early sound
recordings and the use of sound preserving technology. More info:
http://irene.lbl.gov/ Bio: Carl Haber is an experimental physicist in the
physics division at LBNL. While primarily a particle physicist, since 2002
has also been involved in cultural preservation science. He has applied new
methods to restore early recorded sounds. He is a 2013 MacArthur Fellow,
Fellow of the American Physical Society, and John Simon Guggenheim Memorial
Foundation.
