Hello Berkeley High School Community,

For many years, the Berkeley High School counselors have been managing a
couple of scholarship programs for BHS seniors. One in particular is
focused entirely on supporting our undocumented seniors as they head off to
college. As you can imagine, the pandemic has hit undocumented families
particularly hard. Many work in the service industry and have lost hours or
jobs altogether, and they are generally ineligible for much of the existing
government assistance. Scholarship support is more urgent this year than
ever before.

The Aragon Family Scholarship was created in memory of Raul Aragon from Cal
State University Northridge who began supporting our undocumented BHS
seniors many years ago. 100% of money donated goes directly to undocumented
BHS seniors as college scholarships.

Although California does a lot to support undocumented students, these
young scholars are not eligible for any federal grants/scholarships/loans.
This often leaves them struggling to be able to afford college like their
documented peers. The BHS counselors have been raising money ourselves for
this scholarship, but our resources are limited and we are never able to
award as much money as we would like to our undocumented seniors. I know
that many generous community members are interested in supporting our EL
and our undocumented students, and this is an option that could make a huge
difference in the lives of these amazing young people.

If anyone would like to help support these students with scholarship
donations, here is the relevant information:
