		March is National Athletic Training month! 
Shout out to BHS Athletic Trainer Lauren Small!
The athletic trainer is the health care system for athletes and others.  Athletic trainers are on site.  They work with patients to avoid injuries.  They are present when injuries occur, provide immediate care and rehabilitate patients after injuries or surgery.  It is a continuum of care.  They know their patients well because they are at school (or in the theater or on the factory floor) every day.
Athletic trainers save lives.  Sports injuries can be serious.  Brain and spinal cord injuries and conditions such as heart illness can be life threatening if not recognized and properly managed.  Athletic Trainers are equipped to treat acute injuries on the sport.  Active people can have chronic illnesses as well.  People with diabetes and asthma can and do safely work and exercise, and Athletic Trainers help manage these critical health issues as they relate to physical exertion.
Lauren Small, BHS Athletic Trainer in partnership with UCSF Benioff, also works closely with the Athletic Director’s office in the production, review and monitoring of the health aspects of the 1800+ Student Athlete registrations on Family ID!  Lauren, BHS Athletic Trainer and Britta Fjelstrom, BHS Athletic Director work hard (together with Coaches) to make sure all of our athletes are cared in the way they deserve!

•	CHEER TRYOUTS FOR 2019-2020 will take place starting April 22, 2019.  Registration on Family ID open NOW through April 15.  Email athleticdirector at berkeley.net with questions

•	Berkeley Athletic Fund will be holding a special meeting on Monday March 18th 7:00p.m. (BHS Library) with Jennifer “JT” Thomas presenting on Student Athletes and the College Selection process.  This presentation always proves to be well attended and very informative!  If you have an interested in Athletics on the College level you don’t want to miss this one!
