On March 20th, in the BHS library from 6:30PM to 8:15PM, parents are invited to engage in a discussion about how and why teen anxiety is experienced at Berkeley High.

At 6:15 a light dinner will be available consisting of chicken, vegetarian sides, and salad selections from Poulet.

At 6:30 several BHS teachers are coming to discuss the upcoming BFT contract negotiations

At 6:45 the anxiety discussion will begin
We encourage you to complete this questionnaire https://goo.gl/forms/7jcBwprrHHfhkj8a2 prior to coming to the meeting (or if you can't come). The questionnaire gives you the opportunity to share your story but protect your child's privacy and your identity. Additionally the data it gathers is a potential means to formulate new ways to serve BHS students. The reality is that California seriously underfunds education and BUSD has to make additional budget cuts for next year, so it's unlikely that there will be sufficient funding for on campus mental health resources anytime soon.

Here is some additional information on this topic:

Last year's May 16th PTSA meeting focused on resources at BHS, and the information presented is still relevant. Here is a link to the presentations slides:

A 2019 Pew Research Study "The study found that 70% of teenagers saw mental health as a big issue"

"Anxiety is the most common mental-health disorder in the United States, affecting nearly one-third of both adolescents and adults, according to the National Institute of Mental Health. But unlike depression, with which it routinely occurs, anxiety is often seen as a less serious problem."
