Michael Lewis - yes, that Michael Lewis! - has graciously agreed to take
time out from his busy best-selling book tour to be this year’s guest
speaker at the Berkeley High School Development Group’s annual Business
Partners and Friends luncheon on *Tuesday, March 19th at Revival Bar and
Kitchen.*

Perhaps you’ve read some of Michael’s books, which include the new
bestseller The Fifth Risk, as well as Moneyball, The Big Short and The
Blind Side. Or maybe you’ve seen the very (VERY) popular movies of the
same name made from a couple of those books. Or you’ve heard - or seen -
or read - the knowledgeable, on-point and often wickedly funny interviews
with Michael on NPR and PBS, or on broadcast television, or in The Guardian
or The Paris Review. And then, of course, there are his shorter pieces, in
The New Yorker and The New York Times Magazine. And one of our personal
favorites, the essay he wrote for the February 2017 issue of Vanity Fair,
which described showing up for his usual afternoon volunteer shift at the
front desk of Berkeley High - on the day that pretty much the entire BHS
student body walked out in protest of the results of the presidential
election, and surly folks from all over the globe felt moved to call the
front desk to express their displeasure. Because yes, Michael is also a
Berkeley High parent.

If you’re familiar with any of those things, chances are you had the same
response we did to them: “man, I sure wish we could just hang out with him
and chat while we have a beverage and something tasty!”

If you’ve ever had that hankering, you are so very much in luck, because
this intimate gathering will feature Michael in conversation with his pal,
the witty Claire Ferrari, and they’ll be like, 3 feet away from your
table. And there will be live music, wine donated by local vintners, a
delicious 3 course meal, and puh-lenty of time and opportunity for
schmoozing and catching up with friends and acquaintances. (We’ve made
sure to allow more time this year than last; the reception will start at
11:15, with lunch at 12:00). We’re looking for more folks to join our
generous sponsors in hosting a table full of friends, colleagues, and
clients.

The event will benefit the Berkeley High School Development Group, (BHSDG)
an equity-driven, all-volunteer nonprofit group of parents and students
dedicated to strengthening and enriching the educational experience of
every Berkeley High student. In a period of constant budget cuts, this
funding is more important than ever; BHSDG grants funds for numerous vital
programs, including a free multi-subject after-school tutoring program,
testing and college application fees for Juniors and Seniors in need, small
grants to help those students make the transition to college, plus science
equipment, computers, field trips, teacher training, and so much more.
