Berkeley High School African American Studies Department/African-Haitian
Dance Program continues the tradition of its spring dance concert by
presenting “REDEMPTION II – In Control”.

The evening is sure to delight, surprise and engage the audience with
performance of traditional African dance forms, which include Kasonde –
Balanta male initiation dance and Kakilambe (the mask), and Ethiopian dance
forms, as well as more contemporary fare with Ms. Carr’s modern dance
class, hip hop, Cuban Salsa, Haitian, praise dance, spoken word of the
urban griots/historians/rappers. With pieces choreographed by both
teachers and students, this is certainly not a performance to be missed!

Support the arts and Berkeley High School students as they breathe life
into dance both ancient and modern and bring insights into who they are and
some of the journeys and challenges they have embarked on and been
confronted with this year.
