HOT BHSDG NEWS:

Mark your calendars, because DAVEED DIGGS IS COMING to town! This year's Business Partner's lunch will be held on April 19th at Revival Kitchen and Bar, when our guest speaker will be the BHS Alumni, star of Hamilton, Black-ish, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Wonder, and the upcoming Blindspotting DAVEED DIGGS! Individual seats at the lunch start at $500. Visit our webpage http://bhsdg.org/wp/ to learn more and to buy tickets!

WANTED: A NEW TREASURER! Many thanks to Lynnette Orme, who has served for many years on our team. Lynn's youngest child graduated from Berkeley High several years ago, and she will be moving on at the end of this school year. BHSDG has a paid bookkeeper who fully supports this position. If you are interested, please contact us at: treasurer at bhsdg.org<mailto:treasurer at bhsdg.org>

AND: TWO STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES Having student input and perspective on our grants is an important part of our process! If you are interested in bringing us your perspective as a student, thinking about the best ways to serve and support your fellow students, evaluating grant proposals, and acting as an ambassador to the BHS community, we'd like to hear from you. Expectations: read through the grant proposals every month and be prepared to give your feedback on them. Commitment to attend our monthly Board meetings, and to honor our bylaws. What you get in return: the awesome experience of serving your community, service credit for classes, learning about fundraising beyond bake sales. (And frankly, something that looks awesome on your college application.) If you are interested, please contact us at info at bhsdg.org<mailto:info at bhsdg.org> for more information. Selection requires completing an application with Mr. V.

NEWLY APPROVED GRANTS:
Recent grants approved by our all-volunteer Board include:
Science Department: Replace 10 year old Co2 and Oxygen probes - $10,240
9th Grade Identity Quilt Project Materials - $240
Generation Citizen - 9 week Pilot program on democracy - $2500
Field trips to California Museum, De Young and Destiny Arts- $840

REIMAGINING SPRING OPEN HOUSE: Attending Spring open house at your child's elementary or middle school offers a chance to see the work your child has been doing, and check in with the teacher. However, creating a similar experience at the high school level is quite a challenge; how do you display work in a classroom when 120 different students per day from different grade levels have instruction in it? This past December, using a grant from BHSDG, a team of visual and performing arts instructors, in consultation with Principal Schweng, held a staff retreat to re-imagine open house as an arts showcase. Stay tuned to learn more about their vision.....

GRANT PROPOSALS: The Development Group accepts grant proposals from all Berkeley High School (BHS), Berkeley Technology Academy (BTA), and Independent Studies (IS) teachers, students, and staff on a monthly basis. (Deadline: 15th of each month for consideration at the next Board meeting.) Students and Staff - if you have a great idea, submit a grant proposal!

The Berkeley High School Development Group is a group of parent and student volunteers; our mission is to strengthen the educational experience of every Berkeley High School student. We meet on the first Monday of each month (rescheduled as needed to accomodate holidays and school breaks) from September through June, consider grant proposals and work on ways to raise the funds to support them. Visitors and new members are welcome! Due to Spring Break, our next board meeting will be: Monday, April 9th from 7:00-9:00 in the College Career Center.
