Seniors:  Mark your calendars for the following events or scholarship due dates:


COLLEGE VISITS:

1. Black College Expo: 2/17 and Pre-Expo meeting 2/13

Black College Expo at Oakland Marriott City Center on Saturday, 2/17/18 from 9-3.

Black College Expo will host many Historically Black College & Universities (HBCUs) at the Oakland Marriott City Center on February 17, 2018 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. See the website for details and tickets:

Pre-Expo Meeting in the BHS Little Theater on February 13, 2018 at 3rd period.

Come to the theater on 2/13 at 3rd period to meet representatives from the Black College Expo and find out how to be ready with transcripts and test scores for on the spot admission.

There will be free passes to the Black College Expo.

2. CSU Northridge will be in the CCC on February 15, 2018 at 12:30 PM (4th period) to talk about next steps for matriculation, orientation, housing, and more. If you applied and/ or are already admitted, bring your questions for the Outreach Counselor, Anthony Bennett.  Ask your 4th period teacher in advance of the visit and bring a signed pass.


3. CSU, San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly or SLO) will be in the CCC for admitted students on March 23rd at 3rd period.  Ask your 3rd period teacher before the visit and bring a signed pass.  Meet the Admissions Officer, Anna Kei Black-Hogins, to learn about the next steps.


4. Community College Fair on March 16, 2018 during 3rd period and lunch in the CCC.  Talk to staff from local community colleges like BCC, Laney, College of Alameda, Contra Costa & more to hear about the great programs and how to enroll/register.

1. Berkeley Community Fund (BCF) High Hopes Scholarship Lab/Workshop: Tues. 2/13 @ 3:30-5:00 PM

Get hands on help from the BCF staff to complete the scholarship application in the CCC after school on 2/13/18.


2. Reminder that many scholarship applications are due soon in February. Check the monthly spreadsheet above for:

3. New Scholarships due in March or April:

b). American Business Women's Association Pathfinder Chapter: $2,000 award due 3/31/18

Must be female; must be citizen and reside in Bay Area; must have GPA of 3.0 or better

c). Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated, Sigma Iota Chapter, Oakland:  $1,000 Award due 4/1/18

Offers financial support to African American high school seniors who are planning to attend 4 year college, minimum GPA of 2.5, active in community service, Alameda or Contra Costa resident


FINANCIAL AID:

1. Cal Grants:

Your GPA verification will be uploaded to the California Student Aid Commission by the Registrar, Ms. Barbara Mellion, by March 2nd.

You do not need to take any action at this time. In the meantime, create an account on the Cal Grant website to check your status and next steps: https://mygrantinfo.csac.ca.gov/logon.asp

Cal Grant awards are based on GPA and information from the FAFSA, including income level, # in household, etc.


2. Complete and submit the FAFSA or Dream Act (for undocumented students) by March 2, 2018

3) Need help filling out the applications? Come to Financial Aid workshops after school in the Library Computer Lab on Feb. 13 (Tues), Feb. 15 (Thurs).


4) If you applied to private colleges, create a CSS Profile if your school offers CSS aid. For more information:

PORTALS:

Make a portal for each school you applied to in order to check application status and supporting documents.  For example, did you send SAT or ACT test scores?
