Dear Families of 10th-12th Graders at Berkeley High School:

It is with sincere enthusiasm that we present our plans for the Sexual Harassment and Prevention lessons that 10th-12th grade students at BHS will receive over the next few months. Working to build a positive school culture is a goal of our year and so staff and students have been planning for weeks to bring our students this informative and empowering presentation. On a day between February and May, 10th-12th grade students will be visited by Robin Mills in their English class. They will spend the entire period learning from Robin Mills about the topics below:

  *   Sexual Harassment vs. Sexual Assault vs. Sexual Battery
  *   Relationship Abuse; Power and Control
  *   Affirmative Consent
  *   Harassment by Electronic Means
  *   Sexual Harassment and the Law
  *   Healthy Relationships
  *   Reporting Procedures at BHS and BUSD

At the beginning of the lesson Robin Mills will speak clearly about the possibility that some of what she will talk about might trigger a response in students who are survivors of any of the violations we discuss. Student safety is our number one priority and so we ask that if you are worried or believe this lesson might trigger a traumatic response, you reach out ahead of time to a counselor, Robin Mills, or Juan Raygoza. You may also contact Robin Mills for a review of the materials.

We understand that the aforementioned issues are very important and we are committed to continuing to examine them throughout the school year.

Juan Raygoza, BHS Vice Principal, works closely with the Counseling Department and Intervention Programs to provide Sexual Harassment prevention content to BHS students and has partnered with Robin Mills to implement 10th-12th grade lessons during the 2017-18 school year.

Robin Mills joined UC Berkeley UHS as a Health Educator in 2008. She received her BA in Psychology from Mills College (2001) and her MA in Human Sexuality Studies from San Francisco State University (2007). In addition to serving as a Health Coach, Robin coordinates The Sexual Health Education Program and serves as a liason for black student health issues. Robin partnered with BHS during the 2016-18 school year to provide Sexual Harassment education.
