*CONGRATULATIONS Talented Tenth for A Successful 1st Semester!*

This past Fall the 'Talented Tenth' established itself at Berkeley High as
an organization focused on developing Black Male Excellence. The goal of
the 'Talented Tenth' is to empower young men to rise beyond any limitations
by promoting knowledge of self, confidence, discipline, and academic
achievement.

During the fall semester, the 'Talented Tenth' engaged with the broader
community. They volunteered at the Rainbow Recreational Center
'Thanksgiving Turkey Drive', served Christmas Dinner at the South Berkeley
Senior Center, and gave their time at the Joyce Gordon Gallery Holiday
Fundraiser.

They also had the honor of having guest speakers, author of "OG Told Me"
Pendarvis Harshaw and David West of the Golden State Warriors.

This Spring semester, the 'Talented Tenth' will be joined by strategic
partners that will help to support its mission: My Brother's Keeper
Alliance (Barack Obama Foundation), The Hidden Genius Project, 100 Black
Men of the Bay Area, and the Urban Strategies Council- Boys & Young Men of
Color.

The 'Talented Tenth' would not have come into existence without the help
and guidance of men who are committed to the empowerment and elevation of
young black men and would like to thank the following: *Dwayne Byndloss
(BHS Counselor), Terrance Christianson (BHS Counselor), Durwin Brown
(Catalyst Foundation for Youth Development), Michael Gibson (Alameda
County, Morehouse College), Eugene Lemon and Akeem Brown (The Hidden Genius
Project)*
