In late November, the PTSA sent out an eTree announcement about the
proposed 2018-19 BHS staff cuts in the Superintendent's Budget Advisory
Committee (SBAC) proposal to the School Board. Since that time there, the
School Board has made some decisions and the SBAC proposal has changed.

Here's what has changed:

· At the January 10th School Board meeting, the School Board approved the
recommendation to redesign and consolidate the staffing models for
Independent Study (IS) and Berkeley Technology Academy (BTA). The approved
plan's staffing model (1) consolidates the BTA principal and IS Coordinator
into a Principal of Alternative Programs position (2) the BTA counselor
assumes the IS student caseload and (3) reduces BTA Security officers from
2 to 1 position. These changes will go into effect for the 2018-19 school
year

· The SBAC proposal discussed at the January 16th meeting no longer
recommends cutting 1.5 BHS counselor positions in the 2018-19 budget.

Here's what has not changed from the original proposal and is still
recommended:

· Eliminating the BHS Dean of Attendance (Mr. Boltz)

· Reducing the number of BHS Safety Officers from 15 to 11

The current proposal will be discussed at the January 23rd meeting; the
current proposal is in attachment B under item 14.

AgencyTypeID=1&IsArchived=False

The budget will be further discussed at the February 7th and February 21st
meetings.

On February 21st, the School Board is scheduled to vote on the proposed
cuts.

School Board meetings are opportunities for you to make your voice heard
during the public comment period. The School Board meets at 1231 Addison
Street (at Bonar) - you must fill out a speaker card and give it to the
Boards recorder by 7:30PM.

The PTSA encourages you to become informed and understand how these
proposed cuts will impact Berkeley High. The PTSA website has an interview
with Dean of Attendance Alan Boltz. An interview with several Safety
Officers will be sent out and posted sometime this week. You can send
email to all the District's decision makers from a mailto link on the PTSA
website. http://bhs.berkeleypta.org/
