Announcements are put together in the BHS Main Office by Felicia Phillips feliciaphillips at berkeley.net<mailto:feliciaphillips at berkeley.net>

Here are the morning announcements for Thursday and Friday, October 5 and 6.

No School Next Monday
There is no school for students on Monday, October 9. It is a professional development day for the BHS faculty and staff. Classes will resume on Tuesday, October 10.

SAT Reminders
If you have signed up to take the SAT on Oct. 7, please know that ALL test centers are now required to collect ALL cell phones, smart watches and other electronic devices for the duration of the testing. This means that check-in will take longer as we collect and label the devices in each room, but if we check on the roster that a student did not turn in a device, those students will be dismissed more quickly than those to whom we will need to return objects.

So do us all a favor and leave your cell phone at home or in your car. What you do need to bring is a current photo ID, your printed registration letter, several number 2 pencils (not mechanical), good erasers and a calculator for the math section on which it is allowed. Also bring a snack, which you may eat during the scheduled breaks in the hallway. Thank you, test takers, for your cooperation!

Morning Sports Report
Congratulations to the Jacket girls volleyball teams! Both the Varsity and JV teams beat Arroyo yesterday. Thursday the girls volleyball teams continue their home stand against Encinal High School in the Donahue Gym. Admission is free. Thursday the girls tennis team plays against Alameda at King Middle School, and the girls golf team tees off against Arroyo at Tilden.

Special After School Event Thursday
All students who are interested in participating in a restorative justice process related to the offensive social media incident that came to light last week are invited to attend a meeting today after school starting at 3:45 PM in the East Gallery of the BCT. There will be space for the first 50 students, so please come on time at 3:45 pm.

You Are My Other Me Club
Come join the You Are My Other Me club on Thursdays at lunch in room C-206. We are a group of recent immigrants and allies, building much needed community and unity during these troubled times. See you today in room C-206 at lunch!

BART Ticket Sales
Students can purchase discounted BART tickets today in the Parent Resource Center during lunchtime. The cost is $16 per ticket, but the ticket has $32 in value. Tickets can be purchased only with cash; no checks or credit cards accepted.

BHS Sound Studio
Attention all lyricists, poets, rappers, vocalists, musicians, spoken word artists, etc: This information could change your life! The Sound Studio is open for all BHS students. Stop by room C-400 after school Monday through Thursday to reserve the studio, which is available on Mondays from 3:45-5:00 pm, but there are special dates available next week: Tuesday through Friday, Oct. 10-13 from 3:45-5:00 pm. Reservations are on a first-come, first-served basis so act fast!

Positive Shout Outs
Don't forget: tomorrow Ms. Schweng will read the morning announcements, and she's always looking to shout out individuals and groups on campus who are doing great things. Look for the link in your BUSD Email accounts later today.

Friday Jazz at Lunch
BHS Jazz @ Lunch TODAY, on the landing between the A and D buildings, will feature the Sharp Seven: Graham Messer, Sebastian and Gavin Jeanes, Owen Keaveney, Leo Zurita, Jack Egawa and Dash Goss-Post.

Health Educators Needed
SHIFT applications are now available in the Health Clinic located in H-105. SHIFT stands for Sexual Health Information for Teens. Students in SHIFT get paid, receive course credit, and learn to be peer health educators. Applications available now in the Health Center before school, during lunch and after school.

Have a great weekend, everyone!
