Announcements are put together in the BHS Main Office by Felicia Phillips feliciaphillips at berkeley.net<mailto:feliciaphillips at berkeley.net>

Wednesday, September 6, 2017

Good Morning! This is Ike Alexander & Elan Valdez-Kaminsky, your ASB Chiefs of Publicity, with the morning announcements for Wednesday, September 6.

We would like to introduce Marielena Rodas for the first announcement.

Special Message from CLUV Related to DACA
My name is Marielena Rodas and I am president of Chicano Latino United Voices. On Tuesday Sept. 4th Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced that the Trump Administration would be canceling DACA. This program was brought into place in order to help the hundreds of thousands of unaccompanied minors entering the United States, and give them temporary protection from deportation. However DACA applicants also had to provide all their personal information to the government, which means that the 800,000 kids who were once considered safe are now at risk of being sent back to countries that are foreign to them. So Berkeley High it is your turn to defend those who cannot defend themselves. If you or someone around you knows lawyers who would be willing to give free consultations contact me at marielenarodas at students.berkeley.net<mailto:marielenarodas at students.berkeley.net>, this help is greatly needed and appreciated. On behalf of CLUV I would also like to welcome students of all statuses to join us on the campus green Friday after school, where you will find love, and support. We're in this together. ¡Unidos siempre!

Teacher Reminder
Teachers: please remember to take attendance within the first 10 minutes of 2nd period. Thank you!

Morning Sports Report
Today is the last day for student athletes to pick up a clear card for FALL SPORTS. Come to the Athletic Director's office, room J-207 behind the bleachers at Jacket Stadium, from 3:30 until 4:30 pm. You must have completed the online registration on the Family ID website, and have a valid clearance signed by a physician; the physician clearance can be uploaded on your family ID registration or carried in with you. If either of these things are missing or not complete, you will not be allowed to get a card.

You do not need to pick up a card now for a Winter or Spring sport. There will be times later for that. Winter tryouts will take place in November and Spring tryouts will be in February. Grade checks will be done prior to the tryouts and you must be enrolled in a minimum of 20 credits and have a minimum GPA of 2.0. Please contact Athletic Director with any questions: athleticdirector at berkeley.net<mailto:athleticdirector at berkeley.net>.

Congratulations to the girls varsity and JV volleyball teams on their wins against Pittsburg yesterday.

Photos!
For students and staff who were unable to take pictures before school started, there will be a makeup day on Friday, September 22. The location and times will be announced later. If you took a photo, and you haven't picked up your ID card, please visit the office before or during lunch to pick it up. If you would like to purchase photos, visit this website: mylegacymatters.us<http://mylegacymatters.us>. Click on the orange "Order Now" button and use your student ID as the code.

Seniors: check your student Email account for information on senior portraits. There are also flyers available in the main office. Visit 2018senior.com<http://2018senior.com> and click "Schedule your appointment" to book a time. The first dates for senior portraits are September 19-21 and October 9-11.

Have a great day, everyone!
