Good afternoon BHS Families,
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend, and I want to take a moment to communicate about two important things this afternoon.
First, I'd like to draw your attention to the communication that came from our district Superintendent Donald Evans and School Board President Ty Alper regarding the President's decision today to end DACA, which will affect so many of our students and families. We at BHS stand firmly with our immigrant students and families as they navigate this new challenge, and will respond to the fear and uncertainty this decision creates with information, protection, and a steady presence in students' lives. I have copied the message below in its entirety; please stay tuned for upcoming announcements regarding workshops and information nights for immigrant families in the weeks and months to come.
Second, I so appreciate all those of you who have been calling and coming by to better understand how to get parent access to Illuminate, our new student data system (which has replaced PowerSchool). We are a team in the effort to educate all of our students, and Illuminate has important attendance and grade information to help you keep in tune with how your students are doing at BHS. You will receive a letter in the mail with your unique access code, but for quicker access you should look for an etree email today or tomorrow that will have a link to a look-up site for you to get your code directly and then log in. Please call our Parent Resource Center at (510) 644-8524<tel:%28510%29%20644-8524> if you have any questions about access codes and logging in.
Thank you for reading this message and have a good evening,

Dear Community,
The President's decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program will have a profound and devastating effect on many of our students, and their families, and their friends. Even if Congress does act to protect DACA in the coming months, the President's action has caused pain and anguish in our community and across our nation.
We want our community to know that we support the right of all students to attend school, and we do not record the immigration status of our students and families. We will continue to work with our community partners, such as the East Bay Sanctuary Covenant, the East Bay Community Law Center, and the Centro Legal de La Raza to support our undocumented students and families.
We stand with our immigrant families; they are valued members of our community, and we will protect and support them in any way that we can.
We are here for all of you. For a list of resources, please see:

Sincerely,
Donald Evans, Ed.D.
Superintendent
Ty Alper,
Board President

Estimada Communidad,

Sinceramente,
Donald Evans, Ed.D.
Superintendente
Ty Alper
Presidente, La Mesa Directiva
