The Cesar Chavez & Dolores Huerta Commemoration Contest:

*Mendez v. Westminster*

To celebrate the work and legacy of Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta, the 
Berkeley Unified School District and the Cesar Chavez Dolores Huerta 
Commemorative Committee are encouraging all second through 12th grade 
students to participate in our annual essay/poetry/art contest!

This year, the contest will be based on one of these three books:

·2nd-4th Graders: “*Separate is Never Equal*” by Duncan Tonatiuh

·2nd-4th Graders: “*Sylvia & Aki*” by Winifred Conkling

·5th-12th Graders: “*Mendez v. Westminster*” by Philippa Strum

You can enter the contest by submitting ONE essay, poem, spoken-word 
composition or work of visual art inspired by one of the books above. It 
can be in English or Spanish and should be submitted in one of the 
following ways:

·Mail via US Postal Service to:

Berkeley Unified School District y el Comité Conmemorativo de Cesar 
Chávez y Dolores Huerta (CCDHCC siglas en inglés) ¡están exhortando a 
todos los estudiantes desde el 2(segundo) grado al 12 (doceavo) a 
participar en nuestro concurso anual de ensayo/poesía/arte!

Este año, el concurso tendrá como base uno de estos tres libros:
