Attendance Update
Starting January 3, 2017, when we are back from winter break, families will get two attendance phone calls home for absences. One call will now come at 12:45 pm for periods 1-3. The second call will come as it does now at 5:45 pm for periods 1-6. Families will now be able to get a call if their students are missing class in the morning.

RISE Program Toy Drive
Help bring joy to the kids at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital this Christmas by donating a new toy now through December 16. This drive is organized by G.I.R.L. - an empowerment group of Gifted, Innovative, Risk-Taking Leaders in the RISE after school program here at BHS. Please bring your toy donations to room G-111. Thank you for your support!

City of Berkeley's Leadership for Life Academy
Attention 9th grade students: The City of Berkeley's Leadership for Life Academy is now enrolling students for the 2nd semester. This program focuses on developing leadership skills and civic engagement. It meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Youth Service Center on Oregon Street. Sessions begin on January 10. Morning Sports Report
Here are the results from yesterday's games: the boys varsity basketball team defeated Envision Academy, and the girls freshman soccer team blanked El Cerrito.

Today the girls JV and Varsity teams host California High School at Jacket Stadium, the boys Freshman basketball travels to Ygnacio Valley High School for a tournament, and the Boys JV and Varsity teams head to Piedmont.

African Haitian Dance Fall Performance
Berkeley High School African American Studies Department presents "The Story of Kumba: The Orphaned Child", a West African legend. In this dance/drama, one will be able to see the Haitian dance of the dead, Ms. Betti's Aztec dancers, Sabar dance from Senegal, Macru and Kassa from Guinea, Ms. Carr's modern dance, hip hop, a narration that takes you on the journey of being in the story, and more.

Audiences will be thrilled and inspired by these young performers. The performance is tonight Thursday, December 15, in the Berkeley High School Community Theater at 7 PM. REMINDER: Winter Recess
There is no school from Monday, December 19, 2016, through Monday, January 2, 2017. Classes resume on Tuesday, January 3, 2017.
