*BHS COUP ULTIMATE CLUB IS SECOND IN THE WEST!*

After winning the California State championship last month for the third 
time in four years, the Berkeley High Coup Ultimate Frisbee Red Team 
piled into vans last weekend and headed to Corvallis, Oregon to 
represent BHS at the USA Ultimate Western High School Championships 
(June 4^th and 5^th ).

The Coup rode the high of a strong team dynamic built over the last ten 
years. A diverse, close-knit group of 24 friends, they fought hard 
through blistering 99 degree heat on Saturday and made Sunday’s 
championship round. Sunday was a couple of degrees cooler, but didn’t 
feel it. The quarterfinal saw the Coup defeat South Eugene 13-9. 
Semifinals pitted the Coup against a fast-rising Crescent Valley team; a 
12-9 victory advanced the Coup to the final against Roosevelt High 
School of Seattle, last year’s champions.

As they have all year, the Coup represented our school with skill, 
spirit, speed and a ton of heart in the final. The Coup brought a deep 
roster, a balanced attack, a great coaching staff (which includes two 
BHS alums), and a positive, pumped-up sideline presence, but eventually 
fell to Roosevelt 13-10.

The 2015-16 Coup Red were led to a 38-6 season by a baker’s dozen of BHS 
seniors:

- Jeremy Dolezal-Ng

- Blake Johnson

- Skylar Johnson

- Conor Schofield

- Nolan Stangl

- Jonah Taylor

- Hannah Wells

- Tycho Yacub

- Chloe Carothers-Liske (Lick-Wilmerding)

     Colby, Jeremy and Chloe made the National U-19 team and will 
represent the US this summer at Worlds in Wroclaw, Poland.

Berkeley High Coup Ultimate Frisbee is a BHS-sponsored co-ed club, 
established in 2006. Ultimate blends the athleticism and fast pace of 
basketball, the scale and endurance of football and soccer, and Spirit 
of the Game; a unique, self-officiated ethos that places the 
responsibility of sportsmanship squarely on the shoulders of players, 
not officials.
