On December 2, 2014 Berkeley High Sophomore Daraja McDonald was recognized
by the Berkeley Police Department and the Berkeley Police Association for
his outstanding performance as a Student Athlete. Along with the
recognition of his hard work, Daraja received a scholarship award.

In 2013, twenty plus members of the Berkeley Police Department and Berkeley
Police Association participated in the annual Baker to Vegas relay race. This
race is a relay race with participation from over 270 Law Enforcement
Agencies, running from Baker, California to Las Vegas, Nevada. This year the
BPD chose to include a worthy cause as part of their fundraising efforts.
The Berkeley Police Association decided to donate a portion of their
fundraising efforts to honor a deserving local Student Athlete.

Daraja McDonald is one of only three Berkeley High triple sport
student-athletes. Daraja participates in Fall, Winter and Spring seasons
and plays football, basketball and track. Daraja stands out as an excellent
student-athlete not only as a triple sport athlete but because he is able to
balance sports participation along with meeting academic demands.
Throughout the year Daraja maintained a 3.5 GPA and above. He has
consistently been recognized by the North Coast Section, CIF as a Scholar
Athlete.

Daraja received the award during Berkeley High's Basketball game on Tuesday
night. The presentation took place with his teammates, his family and the
school community present. Berkeley High Athletics was pleased to have such
determination and hard work recognized within the extended community and
congratulates Daraja on his hard work.
