*_Project Overview: _*
Seniors at Berkeley High School Green Academy are taking action to
identify key priorities and strategies for the way Berkeley Unified
School District should allocate LCFF funding to close the opportunity
gap. Through the Y-PLAN (Youth-Plan-Learn-Act, Now!)
<http://y-plan.berkeley.edu/>, a model of civic-led work based learning
developed by UC Berkeley's Center for Cities + Schools (CC+S), students
will work with UC Berkeley "mentors," and other civic and school leaders
to conduct community research and create evidence-based proposals for
change. The Y-PLAN follows a 5-step process of critical inquiry modeled
on the participatory planning process, simultaneously building capacity
of young people and civic partners as they work and learn together
around a real community issue. Students have narrowed their focus to
three key priority areas, and will present their final proposals to a
panel of key stakeholders and community members in April:
· Priority #1: Basic Necessities
· Priority #5: Student Engagement
· Priority #7: Access to Courses
Y-PLAN Project Question: /How should Berkeley Unified School District
spend the LCFF (Local Control Funding Formula) money to close the
achievement/opportunity gap in BUSD?/
· What are the top 3 priorities in LCFF that BUSD should focus the
LCFF money?
· What specific goals and actions should BUSD take in these three
priority areas?
· How should BUSD be held accountable, and how will success be
measured?
