Congratulations to the Lady Jackets for a great season! This past
Saturday they traveled to the Sacramento Kings Arena to play Pleasant
Grove for the Division I Nor Cal title. Pleasant Grove claimed the title
58-49. /
Out of the past 38 years Berkeley High School Girls Basketball has been
to this Championship Game 21 times! The 2014 players represented
Berkeley well all the way through their season, the North Coast Section
Championship games and into the CIF State Championships. We are
extremely proud of this remarkable group of Student Athletes and
congratulate them on every single one of their games and all of their
months of practice. They exemplify the hard working Student Athletes at
Berkeley High School.
Did you know.......//
Berkeley High Sports are part of the *_California Interscholastic
Federation, North Coast Section and have been for 100 years!_*
The California Interscholastic Federation was organized at a high school
athletic convention held at the YMCA Field House, Los Angeles, on March
28, 1914. Berkeley High was a part of that initial beginning and was
recently honored for that participation. Principal Scuderi represented
BHS as CIF awarded the CIF Distinguished Service Award posthumously to
Berkeley High School former principal Charles L. Biedenbach. (For photo
and article: http://www.cifncs.org )
The convention followed a number of conferences in which there had been
agreement that high school athletic contests to be of value to the
schools and the participants should be organized under the control of
the responsible head of the schools.
For purposes of administration, California is divided into the following
ten sections: Central, Central Coast, Los Angeles, North Coast,
Northern, Oakland, Sac-Joaquin, San Diego, San Francisco, and Southern.
Berkeley High School is part of the North Coast Section.
The CIF has a proud heritage in providing equitable athletic competition
for 1,342 high schools in California. Since its beginnings in 1914, the
CIF has grown to become the largest youth agency in the nation, serving
more than 6,000,000 young student- athletes each year who participate in
the interscholastic athletic activities of California's secondary
schools. The CIF is organized under the State Department of Education and
is governed by the CIF Federated Council, which consists of high school
superintendents, principals, athletic directors, educators, and allied
organizations.
