*New to the bulletin today
 
ADMINISTRATION
 
1. Don't forget to purchase this year's yearbook!  There are only 90 books
left!  Don't get left out!  Seniors can get their Freshman and Senior
yearbooks for $100, or their Freshman, Sophomore and Senior yearbooks for
$150 in C327 after school.
 
2. It's time to Celebrate Excellence.  Black Graduation will be held June
1st in the Community Theater.  If you would like to be a part of the
celebration, please sign up in H214, H217, Afro-Haitian room or the front
office by March 25th.  The $25 participation fee can be turned into Mama
Washington.  Remember the deadline to sign up is March 15th.

 

*3. Attention all Seniors and Clubs who have purchased pages in the
yearbook: All pages must be submitted by March 15th. Send all emails to:
berkeleyhighschoolyearbook at gmail.com or by flashdrive in C327 afterschool.

 

SENIORS

 

*Scholarship opportunity for Seniors: The Berkeley Community Fund provides
4-year scholarship and mentoring support for academically talented and
resilient Berkeley High School students.  Application information and
important updates for potential applicants will be presented at an info
meeting Thursday, March 14th, during lunch in CCC.

 
CLUBS

1. California Scholarship Federation (CSF) Spring 2013 applications for
sophomores and juniors are available in the college center, See Ms. Price
the CSF Adviser in D221 at lunchtime to get your application.  Applications
are due back by March 15th. Please pick up your applications this week!

 

2. Hey BHS student and staff CHESS enthusiasts!  BHS will be visited by
six-time U.S. National Chess Champion, Walter Browne!! If you are interested
in hearing him speak, please come to portable #7 on Monday, March 18th at
3:30 p.m. He will speak for 30 minutes and then there will be time for
questions. RSVP's are appreciated by Mr. Wolff by writing to:

3. Leadership will be hosting a kit making day in order to put together kits
for YEAH! (Youth Homeless Shelter)  This is a great way to help and get
community service hours.  Come to the leadership office on Thursday, March
28th to help out!

 

SPORTS

*The varsity boys tennis team scored a big league win yesterday by
destroying the Bishop O'Dowd Dragons 6 to 1.  The Jackets swept all singles
matches with two dominating performances by James Stoner and Isaac
Butler-Brown and two amazing marathon wins by Aaron Liew and Kris Oigster.
Doubles teams also dominated. It was a complete team victory.  Go Jackets!

 

SUMMER JOBS
 
The City of Berkeley's YouthWorks Employment Program in the Department of
Housing & Community Services is pleased to announce that the official
application period for the 2013 Summer Youth Employment Program began March
1st and continues until April 5th, 2013.
 
Qualified Youth (14-25 years old & Berkeley residents) are eligible to apply
for jobs in a variety of sectors, including childcare, recreation & clerical
positions within city departments and various community organizations.  The
pay is $8.00/hr, and Youth may work up to 30 hrs/week for up to 8 weeks.
The tentative employment start date is mid/late June.
 
To apply: Youth need to come in person to the YouthWorks office at 2180
Milvia St. (City Hall), starting March 1st, to sign in and pick up an
application packet.  The completed application must be turned in, in person,
with required original documents including Photo ID, Social Security Card,
Proof of Residence, a typed or word-processed resume, and Parental
Authorization for youth under the age of 18.   The deadline for returning
the application & required documents is Friday April 5th, 2012.
 
Please note the offices will be closed on Friday March 22nd as a part of the
city's continuing cost-cutting measures.
 
For youth requiring assistance with resumes, YouthWorks will be offering
resume workshops on Wednesdays, March 20 & 27 from 4:00-5:30 pm at the
Berkeley Public Library, Central Branch (2090 Kittredge St) in the 3rd floor
electronic classroom. Preregistration is required; please contact YouthWorks
to register and to pick up a resume worksheet. Participants in the workshop
will complete a professional resume ready for submission to the program.
