*New to the bulletin today
ADMINISTRATION
1. BSEP Applications are available! Pick one up or get it online. Deadline
for the Applications is February 25, 2013 at 12 noon.
2. Don't forget to purchase this year's yearbook! There are only 200 books
left! Don't get left out! Seniors can get their Freshman and Senior
yearbooks for $100, or their Freshman, Sophomore and Senior yearbooks for
$150 in C327 after school.
3. Attention all 9-11th graders, there will be lunchtime information
sessions on Feb. 20 -22 for AP and IB science classes for next year. If you
are interested in taking any AP or IB science classes next year please plan
on attending a lunchtime session where you can get information from current
students and teachers about the work load, pacing and content of each of the
classes. The sessions will start at 11:50 each day.
The schedule is:
Friday AP Environmental Science(G201) and IB Environmental Science (G208).
AUDITIONS
*1. DANCE PRODUCTION AUDITIONS ARE HAPPENING NOW:
Come to the A Building Stage at lunch and after school this week and next to
learn material for the audition on THURSDAY, Feb 28. That's next Thursday.
If you love to dance -- come join us! We love all dance styles! See Ms Carr
in the A Building with any questions.
*2. To anyone interested in acting for the camera; a few seniors will be
producing a small tv/web series and are looking for actors. Auditions will
take place today afterschool in A203 (Mr. Winer's room). Please contact
510-457-6879 if interested.
LEADERSHIP
1. For the Month of Service, BHS Leadership will be holding a drive to
collect supplies for the local youth Homeless Shelter. This is a great way
to give back. Stop by the leadership office and donate socks, underwear,
toothpaste, toothbrushes, or deodorant. Any donation will help.
2. Be a leader and get involved with the school leadership program. Become
a Vice-President, President or come up with a new position. Applications
have opened for leadership positions for next year. Grab one now through
March 1st in the leadership office!
*3. Leadership will be hosting a kit making day in order to put together
kits for YEAH! (Youth Homeless Shelter). This is a great way to help and
get community service hours. Come to the leadership office on Thursday,
March 28th to help out!
CLUBS
1. Hey club leaders! Are you tired of the same old bake sale? Are you in
need of new members? Well your savior is Berkeley High's second annual
Service Fair on March 8th. Promote your awesome club, recruit fresh faces,
and fundraise by selling cool swag. Sign up in the Leadership Office.
2. Seniors and Clubs! The clock is ticking and you need pages in the
yearbook! They can be purchased at yearbookordercenter.com or in room C327!
The deadline is March 1st , so get on it! Don't miss out!
*3. Come by Ms. Mitchell's classroom in H214 today at lunch to celebrate
Black History and Basketball with a power point presentation and music.There
will be snacks.
SENIORS
*1. Attention all seniors! Mandatory Chicano Latino meeting in the Little
Theater today at lunch. We will be giving information about sahes and all
senior activities. Please come out and support the Chicano Latino club!
*2. Attention seniors planning on attending Community College next year!
The College Career Center is hosting an important information session with
Community College reps today periods 1, 2 and 3.
*3. Class ring pick up for Seniors will be this FRIDAY, February 22. For
the students who need to pick up their graduation gear.
SPORTS
*1. Basketball NCS Update - Boys and Girls will play Friday 2/22/13
Congratulations to the BHS Boys and Girls Basketball teams on advancing to
the second round of the NCS tournament! Both teams will be on the road this
Friday and we would love to see Jacket Fans out there to support our hoops
squad!

*2. Wrestling NCS Update - NCS Championships Friday/Saturday, February
22-23, 2013
Congratulations to seniors Edward Fong and Jonah Hemphill for qualifying to
compete in the NCS Wrestling Championships at Newark Memorial this Friday
and Saturday. Edward placed 2nd at 145 pounds and Jonah placed 3rd at 152
pounds at the WACC Wrestling Championships to qualify for NCS.
Good luck to Senior Wrestlers Iris Stegman, Julia Jacobs, Jonah Hemphill and
Edward Fong who will be wrestling for the last time for Berkeley High this
Friday and Saturday. The Boys will be competing at the NCS Championships at
Newark Memorial High and the Girls will be traveling to Lemoore High School
to compete at the State Championships.
EVENTS / PERFORMANCES
1. Opening night of Berkeley High School's production of the Vagina
Monologues was February 14th! Come support young women at Berkeley High as
they perform this humorous, inspiring play. 100% of proceeds will go to
women's charities. Performances are February 22 and 23 at 7 pm in the Little

*2. Do you want to watch the Afro-Haitian dance class dance and learn about
West Africa? If yes, then come down to the Little Theater 5th and 6th
period, February 27th.
SUMMER JOBS
The City of Berkeley's YouthWorks Employment Program in the Department of
Housing & Community Services is pleased to announce that the official
application period for the 2013 Summer Youth Employment Program begins March
1st and continues until April 5th, 2013.
Qualified Youth (14-25 years old & Berkeley residents) are eligible to apply
for jobs in a variety of sectors, including childcare, recreation & clerical
positions within city departments and various community organizations. The
pay is $8.00/hr, and Youth may work up to 30 hrs/week for up to 8 weeks.
The tentative employment start date is mid/late June.
To apply: Youth need to come in person to the YouthWorks office at 2180
Milvia St. (City Hall), starting March 1st, to sign in and pick up an
application packet. The completed application must be turned in, in person,
with required original documents including Photo ID, Social Security Card,
Proof of Residence, a typed or word-processed resume, and Parental
Authorization for youth under the age of 18. The deadline for returning
the application & required documents is Friday April 5th, 2012.
Please note the offices will be closed on Fridays, March 8th and March 22nd
as a part of the city's continuing cost-cutting measures.
For youth requiring assistance with resumes, YouthWorks will be offering
resume workshops on Wednesdays, March 13, 20, 27 from 4:00-5:30pm at the
Berkeley Public Library, Central Branch (2090 Kittredge St) in the 3rd floor
electronic classroom. Preregistration is required; please contact YouthWorks
to register and to pick up a resume worksheet. Participants in the workshop
will complete a professional resume ready for submission to the program.

TEEN SERVICES
Black Girls CODE is a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching girls
ages 7-17 from underrepresented communities about computer programming and
digital technology. Their mission is to empower and mentor young women of
color by highlighting the achievements of women in technology and thereby
encourage them to embrace the tech marketplace as builders and creators
