*New to the bulletin today


ADMINISTRATION

*1. Are you a sophomore?  Then come by the Senior steps Friday, February 8th, and Thursday, February 14th to pick up an application from Ventures.  Juma Ventures is a program that help you go to college, and save money.  You will be working at the Coliseum, AT& T Park, and Candlestick park.  The requirements are: you need a 2.0 and above GPA, Low income , and the first to go to College in your immediate family. This is a great opportunity you don’t want to miss.

*2. For 9th-11th graders - you should receive a new catalog through your history teacher and a list of the new courses for next year.  Come to the courtyard Wednesday February 13 at lunch to find out more about the new courses or talk to a counselor about your options.   

3. Health Center will be CLOSED on Monday, February 11 and re-opened on February 12.

4.  February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month!  Dating Violence is abusive behavior that one person in a relationship uses to take power and control over their partner.  That can include anything from taking or breaking a partner’s belongings, to making threats, physical violence, or preventing a partner from seeing their friends or family.  One in three teens experiences some form of dating abuse, and many are afraid to report it. If you or someone you know is experiencing teen dating violence, you are not alone!  The health Center is here for you.  Stop by during regular hours to talk.

5. Remember what great books Little Brother and For the Win are? Cory Doctorow, who wrote these books, will be here in the library 6th period on Friday, February 8, talking to classes.  He’s staying after school to visit with students.  Students will be able to buy a book and have it signed.  Cory has two new books out and loves to talk to students about them, the internet, intellectual freedom or anything else.  Please come by and meet a real, live author!  Please see Ms. Goldstein- Erickson or Ms. Provence if you have any questions.
 
6. BSEP Applications are available! Pick one up or get it online. Deadline for the Applications is February 25, 2013 at 12 noon.

 
COLLEGE VISITS:
* 1. Friday, February 8,  Alameda Beauty College, 5th period in the College Career Center

 
LEADERSHIP
 
1. Throwback Dinner ticket sales this week!  Pick up your $25 Ticket for this great event with food, ice cream, performances and more.  Come enjoy an evening all dressed up with your friends. Please remember that you must at least have a 2.0 GPA and no more than 30 period absences. The dress is semi-formal and there will be no ticket sales at the door.  This event is for all BHS students.  Tickets sold in the leadership office.
 
2.   Sign up in the Leadership office. Be a leader and get involved with the school leadership program.  Become a Vice-President, President or come up with a new position.  Applications have opened for leadership positions for next year.  Grab one now through March 1st in the leadership office!
 
3. Yearbook will be hosting a free PHOTOBOOTH on Friday, February 8th in the C building Gallery.  Come with a friend and get your photo in the yearbook!

 
CLUBS

1. Seniors!  Come to the first meeting of Asian Graduation we will talk about sashes, fundraising, and many other thing.  You don’t have to be Asian to be in Asian graduation.  Hope to see you on Friday in C334 at lunch!

2. IB Sophomore leadership is selling smoochie grams in the C building gallery at lunch for 25 cents!
3. Send that special person a personal note stamped with a heart and kiss to be delivered on Valentines day!

4. It’s back!  The American Math competition will be on Wednesday, February 20th.  Come one, come all to the practice sessions at lunch in H216.  Tuesday, February 12th, Thursday, February 14th, and Tuesday, February 19th.

5. Hey club leaders! Are you tired of the same old bake sale?  Are you in need of new members? Well Your savior is Berkeley High’s second annual Service Fair on March 8th. Promote your awesome club, recruit, fresh faces, and fundraise by selling cool swag.  
 
 
SPORTS
 
1.  Berkeley High Women’s crew team is recruiting!  There will be baked goods available on the senior steps on February 19th.  Come enjoy some cookies while learning about the fun of rowing!

*2. Girls Lacrosse Team - Parent Meeting with Coaches. CHANGE OF DATE!!!!!  Tuesday, February 12th at 7:00 pm. In the BHS Library.

EVENTS / PERFORMANCES

1. PANCAKE BREAKFAST -  Cultural Awareness & Teacher Appreciation Breakfast & Program, Sat. Feb. 9, 10 am at BHS Café.  By Black Student Union & Parents of Children of African Descent.  $5 Adult Plate (12+) / $3 Child Plate (5-11) / Teachers Free.  Please voicemail reservations by Tuesday Feb 5 to (510) 528-6335 or (510) 644-8524.  Everyone invited.

2. Dante Ryan and David Marcus, members of the Freshman class and their band, The Newcomers, will be having a gig on Friday, February 8th at Slims, a club in San Francisco from 8-11pm. Tickets are $13.  Come to hear and support local music. More info can be found on the Newcomers Facebook page or on the Slims website.
  

TEEN SERVICES
Make art? Come showcase your art at the Teen Center!  There will be an art show on February 20th!
