We have not yet completed one full week of school but it seems a good moment
to pause and thank our parent and grandparent volunteers for helping launch
the year. As of 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 4 we had 1,660 boys and 1,647 girls
enrolled at Berkeley High for a total of 3,307. This total includes
students enrolled in Independent Studies but not B-Tech. Registering this
many students, distributing textbooks, selling organizers, collecting forms,
handing out schedules is a massive job. It could not have been completed
without the wonderful 181 volunteers that started working on Monday, August
20 with the freshmen registration and continued up until today delivering
schedule changes and helping the Attendance Office with the annual census.

We would also like to give a special shout-out to Betsy Mitchell and Lisa
Sibony who stepped up as volunteer captains for sophomore registration and
Cafe Clem--located right next to the central library and owned by a BHS
family--which delivered two trays of savory and sweet treats every day of
registration to help keep our volunteers going.

To paraphrase Charlotte's Web, this is Some Community. Thank you.
