Youth Spirit Artworks, the TOTALLY FUN, interfaith, green art jobs and job
training program that empowers and transforms the lives of
low-income/under-served young people, ages 16 to 25, has openings for our
Summer 2012 Intensive Art Jobs Training Program.
YSA's Summer Session will run from Monday June 18th to Friday August 10.
Our Art Studio program is held from 10am to 2pm Monday through Friday and
youth involved will be engaged in creating art to sell (art chairs, tote
bags, talking sticks, mugs, masks, prayer flags). Beginning youth artists
are paid 50% of the proceeds of everything they create and sell, and earn a
training stipend of $300 for the summer.
Youth Spirit's Community Art program is held from 2pm to 6pm Monday through
Friday. Youth involved will be engaged in creating community (public) art
for neighborhood revitalization. We work on murals, tile projects and other
art for South and West Berkeley, as well as for other areas. Beginning
participants earn a training stipend of $300 for the summer.
YSA's programs will be held this summer in S. Berkeley at or out of our art
studio and retail store at: 1769 Alcatraz Avenue, Berkeley, CA 94703--which
is 3 blocks south of Ashby BART, near the corner of Alcatraz and Adeline
Street.
Applications can be downloaded from YSA's web site at:
www.youthspiritartworks.org <http://www.youthspiritartworks.org/> . They
are also available at our art studio and retail store at: 1769 Alcatraz
Avenue, Berkeley, CA 94703. They can be mailed back or dropped off at our
art studio/store. Space is available until our program is full--which is
typically by June 7.
Young people who apply need to LIKE (preferably LOVE) ART and must be
willing to make an effort! Youth learn not only about art, but about how to
WORK in a professional setting. YSA is terrific for learning life skills,
for building your resume, getting work experience, earning a great
reference, and for learning to set and achieve personal and professional
goals!
