ATTENTION SENIORS

You will need to file a Statement of Intent to Register to the college you select to attend by May 1st. Consider important factors and prepare to make this decision. If you would like assistance with this process, please come see us in the College and Career Center during drop-in hours.

*Wait-Listed?: If you have been wait-listed to a college/university that you are still considering, you will still need to say "yes" to a college/university that you have been accepted to, by the May 1st deadline. 
*If you are still seeking additional options for four-year colleges, consider looking into schools with rolling admission that still have available space.  If you would like assistance with this process, come to the College and Career Center during drop-in hours.

Community College Applicants: If you plan on attending a community college in the Fall, please make sure to sign up for your assessment test at your earliest opportunity. If you would like assistance with the application process or with signing up for an assessment test, please come to the College and Career Center during lunch or after school.

*SAT SUBJECT TESTS: While SAT Subject Tests are not required, some campuses recommend that students vying for slots in competitive majors take the tests to demonstrate subject proficiency. Remember, these are recommendations, not mandates.

UC Berkeley: College of Chemistry and College of Engineering:  Along with looking for evidence of high academic performance in math and science, the presence of SAT Subject Tests, particularly in science and Math Level 2, is considered a plus.
UC Irvine:  SAT Subject Test scores serve as a value-added component in the application evaluation.
UC Los Angeles:  Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science:  Math Level 2 and science are recommended and considered as value-added achievements during the application evaluation.
UC Riverside:  College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences and Bourns College of Engineering:  Math Level 2 and Chemistry or Physics are strongly recommended.
UC San Diego:  Jacobs School of Engineering and Division of Biological Sciences:  SAT Subject Tests in Math Level 2 and science are  recommended and considered as value added achievements during the application evaluation.  
UC Santa Barbara:  College of Engineering:  Math Level 2.
College of Creative Studies:  Literature for literature majors.  Math Level 2 for math majors.  Math Level 2 and Physics for physics majors.  Biology for biology majors. Chemistry for biochemistry and chemistry majors.  Math Level 2 for computer science majors.   College of Letters and Science:  Although they won't be required, test scores will be considered as value-added achievements during the application evaluation.
UC Santa Cruz, UC Merced and UC Davis :  SAT Subject Tests are not recommended in any area. 

SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES:

*2012 FACES Coalition Summer Medical Academy:  FACES for the Future Coalition, a project of the Public Health Institute, is excited to announce that applications are now available for our 2012 Summer Medical Academy.  This educational summer program provides unique and exciting opportunities to explore the world of medical training and practice.  Offered in partnership with Samuel Merritt University (SMU) in Oakland, CA., the program dates are July 9 - July 20, 2012.  Applications are due by April 30, 2012.  For more information, please come to the College and Career Center during drop-in hours.
Smith College Summer Science and Engineering Program: Open to academically talented girls entering grades 9, 10, 11 or 12. Enrollment in the program is limited, and the admissions process is based on academic performance, a written essay and a teacher recommendation. Application deadline is May 1. Accounting Career Awareness Program (ACAP): The primary objective of ACAP is to increase the understanding of accounting and business career opportunities among high school students of color. The ACAP Summer Residency Program takes place on the UC Berkeley campus, from July 15 to July 20. Applications are due by April 16, 2012. www.acapsfbayarea.org

Project Identity Summer Institute – Morehouse College: This program gives rising academically gifted freshman, sophomore and junior African American and other minority male high school students an exciting glimpse into academic college life. This three (3) week residential program replicates the college experience with an intense curriculum and enrichment activities. The program is located at Morehouse College. Applications are available in the College/Career Center, and all materials are due June 29, 2012.

Stanford Summer Session: This High School Summer College program invites intelligent, motivated high school students to apply for admission. Candidates are selected based on academic strength, leadership in school, and engagement in the community. For more information, visit www.summer.stanford.edu
Junior State of America (JSA): This summer school program offers college‐level classes which develop critical thinking, debate and team‐building skills. Three and four week programs are offered at Stanford, Princeton, and Georgetown Universities, as well as an international experience in Beijing, China. Dates and subject matter vary by location. The University of British Columbia's Summer Scholars Program: This is a 14-day course of study in which you will study with UBC professors, learn about environmental science and sustainability, and live on campus while exploring one of Canada's scenic regions. The program is from July 15 - July 28, 2012.  The program is open to all international students between 16 and 18 years of age, entering one of their final two years of high school. Maryland Institute College of Art Summer Pre-College: MICA is offering the opportunity to experience rewarding opportunities for young artists and designers this summer. AFS, the Intercultural Exchange Organization: This program is accepting applications right now for summer, semester and a full year study abroad trips for high school and Gap Year students as well as for local families interested in hosting a foreign student. USC Summer Programs (Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors): Offers students a preview of “freshman year” through its college immersion program.  Students explore Los Angeles as a laboratory for recreational and cultural learning beyond the traditional classroom.  Programs are designed to combine college level coursework, academic field trips, and structured recreational activities. Colorado College Summer Session High School Program for Rising Seniors (current Juniors):  Earn college credit and find out if Colorado College and the Block Plan are right for you. Oxbridge Academic Programs:  Experience the learning environment in Oxford and Cambridge in England, Barcelona in Spain, Paris and Montpellier in France, and New York City in the U.S.  They offer over 160 different courses to choose from. *The Gloria Keith Dugan Leadership Scholarship:  The Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Kappa Chapter offer graduating high school seniors the opportunity to be recognized for academic excellence, leadership skills, and commitment to public service.  To be eligible for the Gloria Keith Dugan scholarship you must:  Be an African American male or female high school senior, with plans of attending a four-year college or university, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Applications are available in the College and Career Center.  Due date:  April 20, 2012.

By Any Dreams Necessary: This scholarship is awarded to students who are passionate about and inclined toward the arts, and who seek to attend a four-year college/university, or an art focused institution of higher education upon graduating from high school. Elena Castaneda Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship was created to honor Berkeley educator and social justice advocate Elena Castaneda. Elena was particularly committed to assisting young people who spoke English as their second language in obtaining a quality education. This scholarship is given annually to a Berkeley High School student whose first language was Spanish and who has worked to learn English and complete the course work necessary to be admitted to a four-year college or university. This scholarship is also intended for those attending two-year colleges. Applications are available in the College/Career Center, and applications are due no later than May 7, 2012.

Northern California Golf Association (NCGA) Foundation: This foundation offers merit-based and need-based scholarships. Applicants must be Youth on Course members and gave a minimum GPA of 3.0. For information about registering for Youth on Course, visit http://www.youthoncourse.org Instructions for the scholarship application form is located at http://ncgafoundation.org/grants/scholarships Applications are due April 15.
The Bay Area Gardener’s Foundation: is a non-profit organization committed to provide financial support to eligible economically disadvantaged students to attend college. The goal of the foundation is to provide the means for students to achieve a higher education, which will prepare them to be competitive and contributing members of their community and economy. This foundation offers multiple scholarships. Applicants must have a 2.5 GPA and be willing to do twenty five hours or more of community service at a Non-profit organization. Ann & Jon Reynolds Scholarship Awards (Seniors):  These scholarships will be awarded to the successful applicants at $3,000 per year.  Two awardees will be selected.  The eligibility criteria includes a record of community service involvement, a minimum GPA of 3.0, native born U.S. citizen, and submission of a Student Aid Report Summary from Federal Student Aid Program.  Applications are available in the College and Career Center.  Application deadline is April 30, 2012.

Don and Roy Splawn Charitable Foundation West Scholarship Grant Program:  This scholarship program is open to financially disadvantaged students who wish to further pursue their post secondary education, of an academic or vocational nature.   The Don and Roy Charitable Foundation West offers a scholarship grant of up to $1,000 to eligible students who demonstrate significant dedication to their school, family and community.  Students who live independently or whose parent(s) /guardian(s) struggle financially are encouraged to apply. 2012 Ivy and Pearls Foundation Scholarship:  Scholarship applications are now available for the 2012 Ivy and Pearls Foundation Scholarship, sponsored by the Rho Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.  Scholarships will be awarded based on need and academic achievement.  Eligible recipients must be a resident of the San Francisco Bay Area, be African/African American, be a high school senior, have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above, be enrolled as a full-time student in a two or four-year college in Fall 2012 and show recent community involvement.
