We are down to the last 40 copies of the Berkeley Book of College Essays.
This collection of over 60 college essays was originally printed with a
grant from the Berkeley High School Development Group as True Admissions in
2006. The following year Stonebridge Press, working with Cody's Books,
picked up the collection and an expanded edition under a new name was
released. Unfortunately Cody's closed shortly after publication and the
book was discontinued. The essays were written by Berkeley High students
and all income donated to the College and Career Center.

"These essays encompass the richness of cultures, achievements, experiences
and points of view within a remarkable urban high school, and they
demonstrate emphatically that there are many different ways to write a
smashingly effective college application essay," wrote Bob Laird, former
director of undergraduate admission at UC Berkeley and author of The Case
for Affirmative Action in University Admissions.

"This is a useful, provocative, and entertaining new book," wrote Jonathan
Reider, Director of College Counseling at San Francisco University High
School and former Admissions Officer at Stanford University. "It is
radically different in wholesome ways from most of the other 'How To' essay
books that crowd the bookstore shelves...And it is a great cultural survey
of Berkeley; female Boy Scouts, male dancers, you name it. What a great
group of kids."

The remaining 40 copies are for sale at the Front Desk most mornings--please
ask for Janet Huseby or Fern Royce. The cost is $15 cash or check made out
to the Berkeley HIgh School Development Group (BHSDG).
