Dear BHS Staff and Families:
There was a considerable scene on Milvia St. this afternoon after a
confrontation involving several young people erupted across the street from
the high school. BHS students and two non-students were involved. BHS safety
staff intervened as did our School Resource Officer from BPD and BHS
administrators.
There were no injuries, and the BHS students involved have been identified
and will be given appropriate consequences. One non-student was arrested
after refusing to leave the area despite being asked to do so by both BPD
and BHS staff.
Traffic on Milvia was briefly obstructed, and while we are still
investigating the exact cause of the situation, the scene was chaotic enough
that I felt we should give parents and staff a general sense of what
occurred.
I would also like to commend our Campus Monitor who did a great job of
identifying the situation and calling for the appropriate support. The
addition of these staff members to our overall security package this year
has not only improved our ability to monitor folks who enter and leave our
campus, but on multiple occasions, has allowed us to identify potential
issues on the perimeter of our school much more effectively.
Respectfully,
Pasquale Scuderi
Principal
Berkeley High School
