Physical Education Course Waiver Requirements

 

Any student who participates in a state or nationally sponsored
competitive sports activity including participation in a professional
dance company can request a waiver of the Physical Education requirement
from the BHS administration.  Prior to approval, the coach/sponsor of the
program is required to provide assurance, on company/program letterhead,
that the student is meeting state physical standards and competencies
through participation in the activity (Ed. Code 51222b).  Students who
apply for a waiver must do so by the due date.  

2011 - 2012 

PE Waiver Calendar

 

September 6th through September 23rd - Window open to submit a fall waiver

 

October 7th 2011 Students will be notified about PE waivers that were
denied

 

January 20th 2011 - Due date to submit completed fall waivers

 

Specific Waiver Requirements:

*         Take part in a sports activity that is part of an organized
program

*         Take part in a sports activity that requires at least 5 hours of
structured activity per week for the entire semester or school year

*         Turn in the P.E. Exemption Form at the beginning of each
semester, along with a description of the program on company letterhead,
to Mr. Melgoza, Berkeley High School Vice Principal  

*         Submit a verification of completion at the end of each semester
signed off by coach/sponsor 

*         Waivers are located in the counseling office

 

Please note the following changes from previous years: This year students
requesting a waiver no longer need a counselor to sign off but they do
need their club/program to identify themselves and verify on company
letter head that the student is a member and will fulfill the PE
requirements through them. The same signature from the club or program is
required at the beginning and at the end of the semester before the forms
are submitted to Mr. Melgoza.
