1.    Senior Profile must be completed and turned in by Monday, September 12
at 4pm in the College and Career Center.  This applies to all students
applying to private colleges and some out-of-state public schools that
require a counselor recommendation.  It is not necessary for UCs, CSUs, and
community colleges. 

 

2.    College visits to BHS will begin on Sept. 12.  A list of upcoming
visits by college admission officers will be posted on the etree later this
week and the BHS website. 

 

3.    Angela Price is meeting with each senior English class over the next
two weeks about the college application process. 

 

4.    Information on Stanford University on  Wednesday, September 7 at 7pm
to 9 pm.  Bishop O-Dowd High School Auditorium, 9500 Stearns Ave., Oakland,
CA 94605.  Discussion on student life, academic opportunities and admission
procedures. 

 

5.    Information Session for students and parents on "The Sisters"
(Barnard/Bryn Mawr/Mount Holyoke/Smith/Wellesley) on Sunday, Sept. 11 from 2
to 4 pm at BHS, Little Theater. RSVP at www.thesistercolleges.org 

 

6.    Thursday, September 15 at 6:30 pm in the BHS Library, Ms. Price will
be giving an overview of the college admission process to parents of
seniors.    

 

7.    Please check for upcoming SAT and ACT test dates at
http://www.collegeboard.com (SAT) and http://www.actstudent.org (ACT)

 

8.    Parents - please consider volunteering to help out in the College and
Career Center. At the moment College Counselor Angela Price is alone in the
Center. This year we lost the funding which paid for the center's program
assistant. At the same time counselor Elisabeth Sandberg decided to returned
to regular counseling.   The district is interviewing for Ms Sandberg's
replacement.  In the meantime there are many beginning of the year tasks
which must be completed: answering phones, copying, filing, monitoring the
desk in the center while Ms. Price meets with students, etc.  Parent Kathy
Burns has kindly agreed to coordinate and explain the jobs Ms Price needs
done.  If you can help in the center, please contact Kathy Burns at
kb at landwater.com regarding times you are available.
