Join the BHS Mountain Bike Racing Club!

 

Did you know that high school mountain bike racing got its start right here
at Berkeley High, where the first team was formed over a decade

ago?  It's now growing like crazy, involving thousands of riders as it
spreads from California to Colorado, Washington, Texas, and Minnesota

 

We've been riding strong at Berkeley High ever since, and now the BHS
Mountain Bike Racing Club is gearing up for the 2011-2012 season.

Come join the team, and be a part of our great tradition as you ride into
the future!

Why BHS MTB?  Check it out...

 

o Earn your PE waiver!

o All BHS students welcome

o NO TRYOUTS!  All participating club members get to race as part of the
team

o Full skills training for riders at every level, from newbie to expert

o Nobody "sits on the bench" -- everyone gets to ride & race!

o Team-owned race bikes available for the season for riders who need them

o Families may purchase brand-new racing bikes for riders at a discount

o Scholarships available

o Learn how to fix a flat tire and keep a bike tuned up

o Wear the coolest high school sports uniform EVER :)

o Male and female athletes ride, train, and go to races together as one team

o Races have separate male and female categories for competition

o See your fitness and skills improve dramatically through the season

o Great cross-training for soccer, cross country, and other sports

o Train in beautiful Tilden, Redwood, and Joaquin Miller parks -- sure

beats a gym for scenery!

o Opportunities for overnight camping with the team at some races

o Opportunities for post-season competition at Championship races

 

Calendar information:

 

o Monday, August 22 - BHS MTB table at Freshman Orientation

o September - BHS MTB table at back-to-school night

o Lunchtime club meetings starting in the fall

o Oct. or Nov. - Evening meeting for new riders & families

o December - Bike check and "kit" (uniform) orders

o January through May - Team practices on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays

o March-April-May - Racing!

o June - Team season-end BBQ
