School Notes: Essay readers expanded schedule, correction for attendance, two websites, late arrivals, school holidays

Please DO NOT REPLY to the E-tree. Contact: Janet Huseby [mailto:jhuseby at pacbell.net]

1. College Essay Readers. There are college essay "readers" ready and willing to work one-on-one with students at every stage of their college essay writing: brainstorming, revising, polishing. The essay readers are all writers, private college counselors or professionals who use writing in their work. All of them understand the unique piece of writing that is the college essay. This week the essay readers are in the college center every lunch time. Starting next week, Oct. 12 they will be available, first-come-first-served, before school (Monday through Thursday); every lunch; after school (Monday through Thursday and most Fridays). The schedule will be posted on the websites as well as on the College and Career Center door. Do not linger dear seniors, now is the time to start writing!

2. Clearing an absence.  In my last email I sent an incorrect address for the Attendance Office. It is [mailto:bhsattendance at berkeley.k12.ca.us]

3. Late arrivals. Students who arrive late should not pause at the front desk for a late pass. There are no late passes. Students should go straight to class. If they have missed attendance, they will be marked absent or late. Parents or guardians should call 644-6209 or email bhsattendance at berkeley.k12.ca.us to clear the missed time. If you call, please speak clearly and spell your child's name.

4. Many people are not aware that our school has two websites - one operated by the BHS Tech Department, the other by the PTSA (thank you, Matt Wong!). There are links between the two. When searching for information, please check both.

5. Finally, Monday, Oct. 11 is a Staff Development Day. There will be no school for students. There will also be no school for students on November 11 & 12.
