The BHS Mountain Bike Racing Club wrapped up its 13th consecutive year at
the 2010 California State Championship race in Grass Valley. A number of
riders posted strong results at the Championships and in the
overall 2010 final season standings.

Graduating senior Nathan Granados finished his final race with a solid ninth
place in JV boys at the State Championship race, and took the tenth place
2010 season JV boys podium spot.

Junior Lang Miller completed her second season riding for Berkeley High by
bringing home tenth place in JV girls from the Championships, and winning
tenth place overall in JV girls for the season.

BHS Sophomore Isaiah Rapko's first-place finish in a field of seventy
contenders in the JV boys category at the Championships sealed his place as
top NorCal League JV boy for the 2010 season. Isaiah earned a coveted
California State Champion racing jersey for his results, and moves up to the
intensely challenging Varsity boys category as a junior next year.

Sophomore Emily Anderson-Merritt was third across the finish line in
Sophomore girls at the State Champs, and her consistent results on the
season put her in second place overall for 2010 in sophomore girls in the
forty-school NorCal League. Emily will skip JV next year and race Varsity
as a junior.

BHS Sophomore and first-year racer Nelle Gray wrapped up her impressive
first season with ninth place overall in Sophomore girls. Nelle will race
alongside teammate Emily in 2011 in the top Varsity category against the
fastest girls in the League.

The California State Championship race also served as a qualifying event for
the USA Cycling National Championships in July in Granby, Colorado. Nathan,
Lang, Isaiah, Emily, and Sophomore Jonah Udall placed high enough at the
State level to qualify for the out-of-League national event, where they may
compete if they so choose. Congratulations!

The Club wishes graduating riders many fun, healthy and safe cycling miles
ahead. Next year's returning riders will continue BHS's great cycling
tradition, and are looking forward to welcoming brand-new riders for 2011.

The BHS Mountain Bike Club is open to all committed students who are
interested in this lifelong, healthy sport. No experience is required, nor
is having a bike. New students are invited to join the club in late fall
2010, and check out http://www.bhscycling.org/ any time!
