SENIORS

1. MAY 1 DEADLINE – May 1 is the deadline to send in your Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) to most colleges and universities. For most schools, if you do not send in your SIR and your deposit (if required) by May 1, you will not be able to attend that school in the fall. You may only send in a SIR to one school. It is unethical to tell more than one school that you plan to attend their college in the fall. If you have any questions at all, please stop by to see me or Ms. Price at lunch or after school.

2. SENIORITIS – It’s the last quarter of the senior year. Don’t let your grades drop. Don’t think this semester doesn’t count! All four year colleges will require a copy of your official transcript after you graduate. If your grades drop, they may rescind your admission

3. University of California - To help manage enrollment the UCs (except for UCLA) have for the first time instituted waitlists. Merced will continue to offer admission to all of its UC-eligible applicants. The principles that will guide the waitlist process are outlined on UC's website, http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/news/article/22825

4. The financial aid booklet "Fund Your Future" is now available. Stop by the College/Career Center to pick up your copy and get important information on the ins and outs of financial aid, Cal Grant, and other state and federal aid programs.

*5. Seniors who are planning to attend a UC in the fall might need to take the Analytical Writing Placement Examination (AWPE). This year, UC will administer the AWPE on Saturday, May 8 to students who have been admitted to the University for fall 2010 and who, by April 1, 2010, have not satisfied the Entry Level Writing Requirement by other means. Student are not required to take the AWPE if they have a record on file with the University indicating achievement of acceptable scores on (1) the SAT Reasoning Test, (2) the ACT combined English/Writing test, (3) the Advanced Placement (AP) English A examination. Students also are exempt from the examination if they have successfully completed a transferable college-level English composition course.
