ADMINISTRATION

1. Willard Mathworks will start again Tuesday, February 23rd from 4-5 pm.
Training for new tutors will be Tuesday, February 16th. Contact
Willardmathworks at gmail.com.

2. CAHSEE (exit) exam for all sophomores continues on Wednesday, February
3rd. Please note on these days breakfast will be served at 7:00 am to
provide a nutritional morning for students who need to take the test. These
test days will feature cold breakfast items (yogurt, fruit, cereal, cheese,
etc.).

CLUBS

*1. For the very first time, the BHS Chorus Club, with the assistance of the
Berkeley High School Development Group, is offering a prize of $250 to the
best original song written by a student. Entries must be submitted by 5pm
Feb 28 2009.  The winning song will be performed as part of the June 1
concert of the BHS Chorus.  Entries can be in the form of   written music
OR  CD/ other computer music file OR  DVD/other video format.  Send entries
to:  BHS Songwriting Competition, c/o Mr Scott Dailey, Room A206H, Berkeley

*2. Soul Food BBQ Club this Friday at lunch on the campus green.  Ribs,
Collard Greens, and Mashed Potatoes, Mac and Cheese and Black Eye peas...Get
your plate!!!  You don't want to miss this feast.

*3. APIC is hosting its Lunar new year Gram Sale!  Sales are from the 2nd
until the 9th.  A gram is a lucky gold or red packet filled with candy and a
personalized message all of which will be hand deliver to a period of your
choice.  Grams are fifty cents each and the proceeds will be donated to the
Haiti relief. Effort.  Sales will be at lunch in the C gallery on the 3rd
floor and the senior steps after school.  We will deliver them on the 11th.
Get your gram and spread some new year's good fortune.

*4. Help end Human Trafficking! Come to Club Reach every Wednesday in C217
and help to raise money for the elimination of slavery world-wide and in our
community. REACH out to help others in need.

5. Build On is having a book drive for elementary school students!  Please
bring new or gently used children books to your 2nd period classes.  The
class that collects the most books will win a prize!!!  Thank you.
 
6. The California Scholarship Federation is recruiting new members for
Spring 2010. CSF is BHS' honor society and looks great on a college
application or resume.  Please pick up an application in the College Career
Center.  Applications are due February 19, so please hurry. To all current
CSF members, you must re-apply each semester. Both volunteer timesheets and
$20 cash fundraising are due on January 31st in the College Career Center.

SPORTS

*1. Football Meeting for all players/returning players at 4pm.  In the Boys
Locker Room.  See Coach John.

*2. For all interested in playing Girls Lacrosse, there will be an
informational meeting at lunch on Friday. We will meet at the metal
bleachers on the BHS turf. See you there!  For more information, contact

*3. A big congratulations to Berkeley's Girl Wrestlers for their performance
at the Girls State Wrestling Championships in Hanford last weekend. Senior
Miya Sommers advanced to the finals and placed 2nd and Senior Aida Marin
placed 7th. With the help of Freshman Iris Stegman, Berkeley finished 23rd
in the team standings out of more than 150 schools! Good job girls!

*4. Spring sport tryouts start Monday, February 8th.  You must have a
completed packet with physical turned into the Athletic Director's (AD)
office before tryouts. The AD office is the one story building next to
Donahue Gym.

BHS Spiritleading, Parent-Student Information meeting, Wednesday, February,
17, 2010 at 6:30pm at Berkeley High School, (Location TBA).

SENIORS

*1. Some of you--we won't say who yet...need to order your cap and gown for
graduation.  On Thursday, Achievers will be in the courtyard to take your
order. Prices go up Feb. 16.  Not sure you will graduate?  Doesn't matter.
Buy now to save money.  You'll get a refund if you don't walk.  Come to the
courtyard at lunch this Thursday!

EVENTS/PERFORMANCES

*1. WinterBall!  It's this Saturday!  Tickets are still selling in the
Athletic box office until after school on Friday.  Tickets are $35.  Tickets
will be sold at the steps also-$35.  Get yours today!  Cupid's ball is
February 6th.  All WinterBall ticket buyers must have your student ID to buy
a ticket, not just a printout.  Get a new ID from the counseling office for
$10 or its free if you haven't gotten one yet.  

*2. Are you taking a guest to Cupid's ball?  If so make sure you turn in
your guest pass FULLY COMPLETED to the leadership office.  They are due
Wednesday.  No Guest Pass, no guest.  So get your guest pass in now.
Cupid's Ball is this Saturday!  Bring all your friends.

*3. Crab Feed Fundraiser for Rise Program, will be Friday, February 5th,
6-8pm in the BHS Cafeteria. Tickets can be purchased in G111, $35.00 adults
and $25.00 children (12 yrs and under).  All you can eat crab, pasta, salad
and bread. Live Entertainment.  RISE is an academic support and college
preparation program for low-income Berkeley High School students that reside
in West and South Berkeley.

4. Come join the fun every Wednesday night at Berkeley Youth Alternatives -
Teen Night, 6-8 pm.  Activities include: 3 on 3 basketball tournaments
(indoor); shooting pool and x-box tournaments. Contact (510) 849-1406.

JOBS

1. Homework Helper needed evenings around 6 pm in math and language arts for
9th grade girl. One hour 2 times per week. Pay $12/hr. Location close to
BHS. Junior who is willing to do it for 2 years preferred. Interested

2. A Latin tutor is needed for a freshman Latin student. He will need a
meeting 2-3 times a week for about an hour. The pay is $12 per hour. Contact
