How to Find Help With Your College Essay:

One week into November and college essays will be due before your senior
knows it! Read below about two workshops this Saturday, Nov. 7, as well as
other ongoing resources:

1) An essay writing workshop sponsored by the Parent Resource Center is
scheduled from 10 to noon this Saturday in the College and Career Center on
campus.

2) The second workshop will be held at the Claremont Branch library (near
Benvenue and Ashby Avenue in South Berkeley) from 1 to 4 pm on Saturday.

3) In addition our own College Center offers workshops on a regular
basis--your student should come by and sign up for one. Workshops are good
for a general overview.

4) For one-on-one, first-come-first-served help brainstorming, shaping and
editing, please urge your child to take advantage of the college essay
readers available before school, after school and at lunch everyday in the
College and Career Center. The readers are also available sixth period--by
appointment. The essay readers are professional writers, private college
counselors or professionals who use writing in their day-to-day life.

5) Finally, some of you may not be aware that two years ago Stonebridge
Press published the Berkeley High Book of College Essays. All profits from
this book go to the BHS College and Career Center. The book, an
excellent collection of sample essays written by real Berkeley High
students, is available in the CCC for $15 or from Amazon.com.
