ADMINISTRATION
1. HOMECOMING SPIRIT DAY SCHEDULES
Monday: Urkel/Revenge of the Nerds Day
Tuesday: Future Superhero Day
Wednesday: Tropical Hawaiian Day
Thursday: 80/90s (Seniors), Backwards Day (9th-11th grade)
Friday: Red and Gold Day - Homecoming Rally
*2. BART ticket orders will be taken on October 28th and 29th at lunchtime
only in room D224. Ticket price is $16.00 for a $32.00 value ticket.
Students may order up to 4 tickets each.
*3. The Athletics office still has more old athletic uniforms to sell at $5
per item. Come to the front of the Athletic Director's Office (Donohue Gym)
between 3:30 and 4:00 pm. We have old basketball jerseys and shorts (some
are REALLY short), baseball pants, girls old red LAX kilts, and many other
odds and ends.
4. Read Beyond Reality @ your library! October 18-24. Stop by the BHS
Library during Teen Read Week to read beyond reality! Check out materials
to change your world, take you somewhere unlike your world, or learn about
other cultures. Stop by today and pick up a page turner that you can read
or listen to, just for the fun of it.
SPORTS
*1. BHS Football: BHS vs El Cerrito High at El Cerrito High School, JV
4:30pm, Varsity 7:00pm
*2. For all interested in Speed Training, weight training and getting
information on the upcoming Track and Field season. You can meet Coach
Hampton on the track beginning, Monday, October 26th at 4:30 pm thru
Thursday, October 29th at 4:30 pm. You can also get information from Coach
Garrett in the Jacket weight room from 4-5:45 pm daily. Get your physicals
and paperwork started.
CLUBS
1. There will be a bake sale on the senior steps this Friday after school.
Come and get some delicious baked goods.
2. Come audition for Vagina Monologues! Last informational meeting: October
30th. Auditions are November 2nd and 3rd. Sign up sheets in the A Bldg on
the drama board.
3. La Raza Club is recruiting new members. Anyone can join in on the fun
and celebrate the Latin Culture, even if you don't speak Spanish or are
Hispanic. We meet on Tuesdays at lunch in A105 and Fridays after school in
A105. Hope to see you there.
*4. Get your Spoken Word on...join Youth Speaks! TUESDAYS, 4pm in Room C325.

JOBS
YouthWorks is the City of Berkeley's Youth Employment Program. The 2009 fall
after-school program will be accepting applications from October 1st until
October 31st. Interested youth are required to come in person to the Youth
Works Office at 1947 Center Street, Basement, to pick up an application,

SENIOR SECTION
*1. Yearbooks - Seniors turn in baby pictures or we won't have them in the
yearbook. Also, pick up senior polls Thursday in H102b (7th period).
Yearbooks are still for sale at myyear.com. Hurry before the price
increases.
*2. COLLEGE VISITS: FOR SENIORS ONLY!
Over 100 college representatives visit Berkeley High each year. These
visits take an entire class period and are held in the College/Career
Center. Seniors may attend the visits by signing up in advance in the
College/Career Center and by having each teacher whose class they will miss
sign an authorization form (available in the College/Career Center) prior to
the visit. Students may attend a maximum of 10 sessions because academics
are very important during the senior year.

3. Students who need fee waivers: The College/Career Center has ACT fee
waivers and SAT fee waivers.
EVENTS/PERFORMANCES/CONTESTS
*1. Attention all Rally dancers, Mandatory rally screening on October 26th
(new date), at 4:30 pm in Naomi Washington's dance studio. Please have your
final mixes complete by then. No cursing, only appropriate dancing will be
allowed. Anyone interested in being an MC please come to the dance studio
as well.
*2. OCI is having a poster contest to inform students about keeping their
valuables safe. If you think you have what it takes to help raise
awareness, talk to the staff in OCI! Winners will have their art posted on
the bulletin boards and in the locker rooms. In the meantime, remember that
being aware of your surroundings keeps you and your belongings safe!
2. Are you a Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior interested in running
for Homecoming court? All grades can run. Stop by D148 to pick up an
application. Good luck!
3. The BHS Spring Musical will be the Broadway Hit: "The 25th Annual Putnam
County Spelling Bee." Auditions coming in October. Show opens April 7th. See
Mr. Winer for details!
5. Youth Musical Theater Company is holding auditions for its winter show,
Once Upon a Mattress, on November 2, 3 & 4 at the Metal Shop Theater
(Willard Middle School). Once Upon a Mattress is a hilarious musical spoof
of the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale The Princess and the Pea. It is
full of delightful, snappy music by Mary Rodgers, wonderfully witty lyrics
by Marshall Barer, and big, fun dance numbers. Rehearsals begin November 30,
and performances run Feb 19 - 28. Newcomers welcome! Tuition assistance
available. Information meeting on October 21, at the Metal Shop Theater. For
