Berkeley Schools Excellence Program (BSEP) Planning & Oversight Committee
(P&O)

- Since 1986, Berkeley schools have had the great good fortune to receive
local property tax funding, most recently on the ballot as Measure A, the
Berkeley Public Schools Educational Excellence Act of 2006, approved by
nearly 80% of Berkeley voters.
In the 2009-10 school year, the BSEP/Measure A tax revenues will total over
$21 million, one fifth of the district's entire budget. These dollars
support a wide range of programs and services for our children, from Smaller
Class Sizes to Counseling, from Libraries to Music and Arts, from Technology
to Parent Outreach.

-The BSEP Planning & Oversight Committee, made up of parent representatives
from each school, meets regularly to:
	-Develop, with district staff, budget recommendations for each
element of the Measure,
	- Provide communication among the school sites;
	- Review District compliance with the terms of the Measure.

-The Planning & Oversight Committee needs Representatives (and alternates)
who will:
	-Take a district-wide perspective;
	-Provide vital public oversight of the Measure;
	-Represent their school in discussions of district-wide issues;
	-Be selected by their school's School Governance Council (SGC) or
BSEP committee (at BHS), although they need not be members of the SGC.
